Knock sensor?

Knock sensor?
My car is 88 n/a with a jdm s5 T2 swap. All s4 electronics. While driving the car around corners the car will buck like crazy. Knock sensor retarding the timing? If so can u just unplug it?

If you do the FSM test, it actually does retard the timing. I tried it mostly because it is a factory certified test procedure that involves hitting stuff with a hammer.
I agreed it probably won't react fast enough to save a badly detonating engine. It was made to save a stock setup with a little twitch i.e. a cold night, bad gas, wastegate line that popped off, etc... Not a 400 hp turbo.

Seems like any bump would activate a malfunction that bad.
15-20 minutes should get you to the fuel sock to either confirm or deny my guess, which is a whole lot less time than chasing ground issues.
Do the easy stuff first and maybe you'll get lucky.

Dunno nuffin about knock sensors since S5s don't have them but why in the world would a bad ground only fritz out in corners?

Hmm.
Maybe.....I bet you didn't cut the wire that controls the PS.
when you hook up the N/A harness to the TII Ecu you need to clip a wire.
In a N/A it is for PS but when it gets converted it goes to Knock sensor.
If not it retards timing when you turn.
Hailers had a write up on it I believe.

I know nothing about diagnosing your issue. However, on my S4 T2, I found that the pc board inside knock box was cracked in half. Might want to check yours to see if it is still intact. My girlfriends knock box is stillin one piece.

Going Thru The Same Swap and Issues
I'm performing the same wire removals and reaasignments myself at the moment. I just bought a knock control box from a memner on this site, as soon as it arrives I will finish up the wirring. With the help of other members I'm gaining more knowledge. Thanks for posting the detailed pictures, between reading the diagram it helps to cross refference with real pictures of the exact harness and wires to work with.

NA doesn't have a knock box, if you use the NA harness and if your Vert use your stock N338. If you use TII harness you have to pull and change wires to get the na cluster to work. Also to use the S5 TII alt you have to pull and change a couple of wires and run one to the main power on the alt to the fuse panel under the hood.

Yes NA doesn't have a knock box, if you use the NA harness with a turbo swap the power steering wire on the NA harness runs into the pin for the knock sensor on the turbo ecu.
So when he turns the wheel the computer thinks the knock sensor is detecting knock so it retards the timing.

"" I can't remember which wires you need to trip but I know one of the NA wires that go to the power steering goes to the knock sensor system on the TII's so... not fixing the wire problem means when ever you turn the wheel your ECU will retard the timing 20 degrees.""

Look for the pin out on the turbo ecu, find the wire for the knock sensor.
Cut that wire with enough length (3 inches) so you can crimp or solder it back together if you need to.
Drive as you would and see if your issue is gone.
I just did my turbo swap in December and I'm not having any issues. S4 NA car, harness, n332 ecu, n318 maf and pressure sensor.

Okay, so that still applies to what I said. S4 turbo ecu, maf, and pressure sensor, but NA harness correct?
