key on/in warning beep won't stop

OK - on my DD (86 GX n/a) I burned the brake pads off at the track a few weeks ago and it has sat since then while I assemble the parts for a 5 lug swap w/ 4 pots and better suspension.

The window was down a crack to my shagrin and we did get some heavy rains.

I started the swap last night to find my battery DEAD as a door nail - once I put the charger on I noticed the beeping inside. (I can get a video of the beeping at some point if necessary)

OK - so, no key in the ign., no headlights on, no nothing....and evey mmmm 5-10 seconds I get the dee dee dee dee dee...............dee dee dee dee dee.......

Im thinking that one of my switches (possbly H/L) got wet and now has some kind of short telling the warning buzzer something s on. Any ideas before I pull it apart?

Check the CPU inthe drivers kick panel.

I sometimes see them get wet and short out internally on the door buzzer/lights on buzzer circuit.

thanks mark! Ill check that out.....

edit: what would be best if I find it soaked? blow it out gently and warm it up under the blazing sun? or just swap it out? I guess what Im asking is if its had a short from water....will it still short or be troublesome after its dry?

well remove it from the car/unplug it, take out the screw in the middle of the back, pop the back cover off, and push the main circuit board out from the front.

Then spray out the water (compressor air or bottled air for cleaning computers/electronics)n from the main board, and let dry for a day or so.

The re-assemble. It should be fine when dry.

If you need to still drive the car and this is a S4; You can just take out that main circuit board, and then plug in the bottom two plugs back into the CPU. Your horn and alt failure won't work (they are on the main board) but your turn signals and brake lights will still work so you can drive the car.

OK - weird...

I pulled the CPU, took off the cover and everything *appeared* dry (granted its been smokin hot for approx. 4 days, all that while he CPU has been "drying" in its place in the car)

So I grabbed my optima since it had a good charge and hooked it up after re-installing the CPU and -bingo- no beeping.

The strange part is that just before this RIGHT before I unplugged it, it was beeping, however the (for all intents and purposes) dead battery was in it at that time.

Is is possible that a combo of a bit of water creating a short, then a dying battery, would keep that unit beeping day in and day out until it was unplugged and the battery replaced?

either way its not beeping now and its all good...im just curious of any opinions on this weirdo phenomenon.

Yeah, I think you figured it out. I would guess the same thing. There are a couple of chips/arrays in the CPU that do wierd things with low voltage.
