ON keep the hks pfc f-con?

hey guys, i have a 87TII and my motor is out being rebuilt . nothing crazy just some mild porting and fresh up.
i was running a hks pfc f-con with 2 extra injectors and a few extra fuel controllers(all hks) the car also has a hks sport turbo kit little bit bigger turbo and exhaust manifold.

all this stuff is from the 90's is it time to upgrade or keep what i have, how much more power can i get out of this computer? looking to run 12lbs this summer.

car ran fine last year and made decent power on 8lbs

other mods
racing beat full exhaust no cat
hks front mount
electric boost controller

Dont here much on these older ecu's just wondering what you think or if you have this computer.

THANKS!!

i like em, its a bit crude though. i'd maybe put bigger injectors in there and run it, but a newer ECU would let you get rid of all the cool 80's boxes....

i never trusted them even 10+ years ago. nothing beats a dial indicator with 5 settings to choose from!

does it work? about as well as a stock ECU with bigger injectors and CAS timing retarded about 10 degrees.

I put an HKS PFC F-CON on my '87 TII in 1992, along with an HKS boost controller, fuel cut defencer, boost guage and 2.5" exhaust. Car ran fine for 55K miles at 11 psi of boost. It became a part-time toy so it took until 2010 for the engine to get really tired at 105K miles.

I had the engine rebuilt by Turblown Engineering. The car had been caught in a storm while parked in 1999, and ended up in 18" of standing water when the storm sewers backed up. The ECU and PFC F-CON were both under water for about 20 minutes. Never gave me any trouble after things dried out, but it just made sense to replace them with a rebuilt engine. I looked around at the alternatives and decided on the Rtek 2.1 as a good price/performance balance. Bought a used ECU and sent it to Rtek. They do a complete diagnostic as part of the upgrade so I knew it would work correctly. Added a wide band O2 sensor to assist with setup, water injection for a bit of insurance, and a Racing Beat 3' turbo back exhaust. Stock turbo was rebuilt, stock injectors because I care about fuel mileage, and stock intercooler.

Elliot White at Turblown did most of the tuning and in 10K miles of driving I have found it to be a set once and forget experience running 12 psi of boost. I do keep an eye on the O2 sensor when driving briskly and have never seen a dangerously lean reading. I don't race and don't seek absolute max horsepower. Engine performance is better than it was in 1992, though not hugely. Mileage is no worse than new. The ageing transmission is really the main bottleneck these days.

So that is one man's experience, FWIW. Wish I knew of a good, reasonable source to get the transmission rebuilt.

unfortunately the aftermarket for the turbo transmissions is null, we have to use all OEM parts so there is no shortcuts in prices.
