Thank God for this thread. I told my wife that someone on the forums was fixing up a vert for his GF, and she said "they have convertables? I want one!." So once we actually have extra money I'm gonna look for a 7 for her. She said she would actually like any fixer-upper so she could fix stuff up how she liked them. She really wants a 3rd gen, but I told her that was a little out of our price range. I offered to let her drive mine when its running, but she's afraid of driving it. lol
Yeah, that was a semi-joke, although I have used them for that purpose.

yeah they work. good to use on shitty hatch struts, lol. here's the pic of what i was talking about:
the exposed strut slides into the groove and you twist the handle down and the brass stud clamps onto the hatch/trunk strut, not allowing it to compress. brass is softer than steel thus you get no marring on the hatch/trunk strut when you use this tool. i love them, they work great!

not that bad with some time and effort. and of course some money she'll be good as new. i love the haynes manual in the passangers seat. cant go anywhere without it :-)

You can still keep 50/50 weight distrobution in the FC when swaping a V8. Mazda runs a LS1 in the RX7 in the races the rotary was banned and also wone just about evry race with it. I can also swap a V8 in cheeper then I can do a TII swap and make more power. Generaly a rotary cost more to build but all depends on the HP goal you are trying to make what motor is cheeper. But I can always get betor gas milage from the right V8 compared to any rotary FC there is. The power band and driver style is the main concern when choosing a motor.
Speaking of such I just did a 305 swap with a 700R4 into a vert. It's an awsome ride going up for sale $19,400 if anyone is interested.

Well, I just got the estimate from the body shop.
If anybody here is good at body work and would like to buy this car as a project, I'd be willing to sell it. If not, then the project just got a big delay until I A) get my barn/workshop built and B) learn how to do body work.

definatly learn how to do the bodywork while you are building you workshop! if you wee clos to ohio, i could have my father do the paint and bodywork. he had a bodyshop for years. now he just does it out of his garage for a hobby. im positive i could get you a price that would make you want to have the work done.

curt, i agree with you 100%.
however, sometimes its just pointless to try and save them. my gxl, for example, is past the point of no return.
but you better believe, my purple drift monster will not sit and rot. it'll go out in a blaze of glory.

It is amazing how much they can be brought back from the dead. The wife of the guy who gave us the vert couldn't believe it was the same car. She thought we had it painted! I wish the interior were as easy to clean or renew. Fortunately, the car has only had two owners before us, so there wasn't alot messed with.
