![Question](https://www.rx7club.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I just got my first rx7... its an '88 n/a and everything looks good.. however, it has a few slight problems... first, the engine misses a little bit. it shakes a little and i can hear a slight miss...but it has quite a bit of power, and its getting about 17mpg, but i wonder if it could be tuned better? Also, my cigarette lighter just stopped working... all of a sudden, my radar detector wouldnt work... i have checked the wiring and fuse, nothing looks wrong.. is this a typical problem? And finally, a typical newbie question... is there anything i can do either free or very cheap (i.e. twist a screw, install a resistor, remove something) that will free up a bit of power or give better mpg? Thanks for the help.
I hope to be the owner of a great looking and running 7 for a long time.....

welcome to the club!
you want to read the sticky at the top of the page and check the archives for good information. Before you modify anything though get a full tune up to make sure everything is in good running condition.

Congrats on the new wheels!
Tune up was a very sound suggestion. Unless you know what maintence/recent repairs were done get the tune up, meaning plugs and wires, change the fuel filter with only Mazda OEM. air cleaner, oil and filter change, drain/replace tranny & dif gear oil, and flush radiator and use only the green anti-freeze. You have now done all the basic stuff and have a reference point for future maintenance.
Now, before you touch a single additional screw. bolt, or widget, read the FAQ stickey and download the Factory Service Manual for your car and look it over. Trouble shoot what remains by doing a "search" on the problems that remain and then post questions if ya can't find what ya need.
Great folks here, expect much technical advice and moral support.

Thanks for the suggestions...
Unfortunately, theres no one in my area that knows much about rotaries.
I have changed the oil(and i add it about every week or as needed with Gastrol GTX 20-50), flushed the radiator, replaced the shifter with a mazda trix short shifter(and at the same time put more lubricant in the transmission), changed the plugs with new NGK ones, and the plug wires are new. What are a few things that are done when a tune up is done? Can they be done by someone relatively new to car stuff in general? Any tweaks i can perform? And unfortunately, i have little or no money that can be spent on the car...Thanks again... you guys are a lot of help.

yEAH like jodo said a tune up goes a loooong way. And i might be wrong but if you feel that your drive line is not tight it could be the engine and trans mounts. I had to replace my trans mount when i first got the car. Running a couple bottles of Chevron Fuel injection cleaner also helps alot. ANd so does the magic mystery oil seem to make my car run smoother. As far as gas milage there isn't much you can do about it. But again the tune up will make the MPG a little better. Depending how your tranny is doing, you might also want to change the tranny oil. Corgration about the new car. I just got my 7 a few weeks ago. I am loving it
