Thumbs up Just Got My 7

hello

i just got a RX-7 the other day and its fun but seriously torqueless. It really doesnt feel anywhere close to having 138lbs of torque but its still fun.

silverish blue 86 rx7 gxl w/ 71,000 miles and a broken sunroof for 2800 total.

From reading the FAQ i am aware my car comes with a stock LSD. I was also reading about the 5th and 6th port not opening and i pushed on the links for more info but they werent working. I did a search but didnt find anything to my use. How do i know if my 5th and 6th port are not working or opening? Where are they located? Please give me more info thanks.

Also what is the stock 1/4 mile on the 86 gxl? Does anyone know. Im suppose to race my friends 95 civic with just intake and exhaust and his car feels a lot faster then the N/A. He ran a 16 flat i believe.

Thanks

Put white grease on the actuators. If the ports are working, you will see that the grease moved.

RX-7's still have more torque than most stock 4 cyl Honda's

If he's running 16's, it'll be a close race....

"Aaron Cake" has a good write up on determining if your ports are working...

His web-site doesnt seem to be working at the moment...
but it's

http://www.aaroncake.net

Click on the RX7 Link... you'll find it.

thanks for the help you guys

the link doesnt seem to be working for the aaron page. The rear wheel drive is different to handle so im scared to take sharp turns at high speeds. My rpms dont seem to lag or anything so i guess its alright. I want to put an intake on my car, how does it sound for you guys that have them on? I heard you can adjust the 5th an 6th ports open. Is that a good idea and give me more power through the powerband or will that just make me waste gas. I seem to have to launch pretty high in the 7. 4500 rpm is pretty high.

Thanks for the help!

Well If you mean wiring the ports open that should'nt even cross your mind. I tried it just to see what all the kiddies are talkinga bout and it felt like crap. You have to drive above 4k rpms for it to be like normal but by then your wasting more fuel than normal so its pointless and annoying. An intake doesn't really change the sound of the car much. Unless you have a full exhaust then it does make some sort of noise and ofcoarse that sucking noise but who cares thats just for kicks and doesn't matter for performance. I am gueassing you came from a 4cyl. car FWD? I came to the FC from a grand am with 117hp so it was a bit of a leap. hehe

In any case if it means anything the FC can out handle most cars on the road because of its great suspension and weight distribution which is nearly perfect 50 to 50% front to back. I personally had a FWD car see what the FC could do on the turns. It was me and a friend with an altima 4 banger 5 spd and me in my FC. He ended up in the air port's fench and I just went to help him after I stopped. We were doing around 65-80mph in a road that goes into an S turn or S curve situation and he tried to out corner me and he lost the battle with grip. FWD is only cheaper and easier to build not more stable if you know what your doing.

Yea i was playing around with my N/A and it slides an screeches sometimes and i wasnt going fast at all. In my front wheel drive i can take really sharp curves at like 60 mph and i didnt want to go any faster but with the 7 i dont want to go past 50 becasue i keep feeling like the back end is going to slide out haha. I guess i just have to get use to it. I use to own a 2000 civic ex. It has 127hp and only 107lbs of torque!! but when i got in the rx7 it feels like even less torque but i guess it gets up to speed pretty quick. I feel like i have to race someone to get an idea of how fast it is. This engine looks so different an is set up so different that im use to that i dont even know where the spark plugs are located haha

Thanks for th replie

The spark plugs are located near the oil dip stick on the driver side of the engine bay. If you cant spot them look for the spark plug wires connecting to them. If you cant see the plug wires there are two coil packs on near the front left headlight with the plug wires and one above the front left strut tower. If you still cant find them you should sell the car.

wait just to be sure here you do know that the 7 doesn't have pistons right? lol

If your sliding at low speeds then something is wrong. I would check your tires and stuff like that. Give the suspesion a once over to see that all the springs and shocks are ok and start looking at your bushings and all to see what will need replacing in the future.

The plugs are on the drivers side of the engine. Two per rotor on leading and one trailing per rotor. Remember to geat the correct ones. 7's and 9's not all 7's or not all 9's. Some shops don't know they are supposed to stock two types of plugs and insist that you don't need the other type of plug.

leading=lower
trailing=top

parts numbers BUR7EQ AND BUR9EQ... I forget which one is leading and trailing but they are marked on the box. Get Mazda OEM NGK spark plugs.

Do not buy cheap ebay adapters. I can tell you myself that they suck *** are are made to fit many MAF/AFM's garbage if you ask me. Buy an HKS or one from HIGGI or REted on this form.

There are 4 plugs. two on the top and two on the bottom.

I thought there were only 4 plugs. 2 leading 2 trailing. (one set/rotor)
The airfilter you listed is decent, just don't expect large horsepower gains. A K&N plus parts from Home Depot will get you there.

if you run it bone stock in a qtr mile with a good run you would pull 16.8 if you are at sea level

thanks

i believe my ports and everything are opening. I was expecting a little faster 1/4 mile because i ran a 16.4 in my civic ex but ill have to test it and figure it out.

I see 4 plugs. 2 on the top portion and 2 more like a foot down. The ones closer to the lights are trailing (7's) and the ones up top are leading (9's)?

Thanks once again
