Just got a 87TII need help

Ok so this is my first FC that I have owned at least, but I have a car that is said to have a JDM motor from Osaka Motors, and has a t04e turbo, stock primary injectors and 750 secondaries, full racebeat exhaust system and everything but the alternator was taken off. I have two issues, 1 the car will not idle by its self, it dies right out unless I keep my foot on the gas a little, and second it will not rev over 3500 rpm in neutral and wont rev over 2500 if I try to step on the gas pedal.

Any thoughts or help will be appreciated, I just put fresh 93 octane and a new batter in it, just need it to idle correctly first. Thanks

Stock ECU? any aftermarket electronics?
Is your wiring correct?
Are your secondary injectors the right impedance for your wiring harness?
Did the car work when you got it?

Do you have a good mechanical and electrical aptitude?

Do you know anything about the car besides what you were told?

Its a true TII, but as far as everything else goes I am just taking the kid's word for what is done the the car, just towed it home yesterday and haven't had time to do a whole lot to it, and I've been a mechanic for 12 years but now I just run a shop so I know my way around a car mechanically and electrically so that's not a problem, but I figured I would get a few leads on where to start before I just jump into it this weekend and test everything I would think could be a problem, and I believe all the emmission's are there because I still have a set of block off plates that have not been installed that he had.

Dig into it more, let us know what you find. Knock out all the basic stuff first.

It could be anything, but if you want help nailing it down you need to provide more info than "hey I just got this car, it doesn't run right, the PO told me it had X mods, what's wrong with it?"
Very hard to diagnose without seeing it in person.

I was just throwing it out there hoping it might have been a known issue or a common one, i will dig into the car this weekend and test the MAF and TPS and injectors and inspect for vacuum leaks to start.

So I tore the top mount off to inspect the everything underneath and look at doing the block off plates and to see if maybe I had a wiring issue, and low and behold the damn lower hose from the top mount to the intake was kinked and not even mounted correctly, put it all back together and fired it up and BOOM it idles..Now it idles at about 1600 and feels like it has a slight missfire

dont know how cold it gets where u are but these cars have AWS system that holds high idle to quicken the warm up, but i think thats a little high of an idle for even that.

as far as the misfire, do what you should ALWAYS do when you get a new car, check/change plugs, wires, filters, oil blah blah as a mechanic im sure you know all this anyway.

i would start with basic maintenance and see how she runs after that

Im in Florida so its not cold at all, so after work today I decided to grab my OHM meter and OHM out the TPS, it was set to idle with 3.1 OHM and warm idle I believe is to be at 1OHM, so I set it at 1.14 and it idles nice and smooth at about 1000-1100 rpm hard to tell, but now it smokes a lot, its blue but I think its more fuel then anything because I am running pre mix 93. So I got the car to run pretty smoothly but it seems like it does not rev up very fast and now the smoke issue, I assume I should probably get a AFPR because upgraded fuel pump and injectors?

Also try not to drive the car if its smoking blue you can make it worse than just blown water seals.

I know the color of smoke's but it only started to smoke when I turned the idle down from 1600 to 1000 and it sounds like it is flooding out, so I am kind of thinking I need a AFPR to turn the fuel down because of the aftermarket pump and bigger secondaries

If it stinks like fuel you're probably spot on. It could be a sticky throttle body, or sticky throttle cable causing the slow revving.

If the car does have a bigger turbo you will need to control the fuel and timing to run it safely, if not you'll blow it up.

So I could not get the idle down because I didn't notice the throttle cable was jerry rigged and held up so I fixed that then I re OHMd the TPS and set it to about 1.33ohms and that dropped the idle down and I replaced the plugs and wires with NGK parts but put the factor 7's and 9's back in, and now it rev's normal and run's great, I think now i can start fixing the rest of the jimmy rigged stuff like the power steering where the guy just cut the hoses and took the pump off instead of running a loop.

Now that my idle is down if I rev it up, it comes back down then does a idle surge about 3 or 4 times then goes back to normal...Any Idea's?

When it is cold or warmed up all the way?
It could be an issue with the thermowax in the TB, air, or crap clogging the passage that runs by it.

I suggest replacing all the intake manifold gaskets, injector o-rings, rubber coolant hoses, vac hoses and associated gasket s on the engine. The car will run much better and the investment now will save you time in the future so you don have to track down random issues with said items.

It surges like that when it is warmed up, I looked at it again today and I re adjusted the thermowax set screw and now it actually idles when it is cold. Did not let it warm up though I will go back tomorrow and work on it.

Im glad you said that Molotovman, I was thinking about taking the intake off and throttle body and cleaning everything up, I just did the oil change today, it was sitting so long, the oil filter was rusting on the outside...

It does have the factory coolant hoses, and a few of the coolant lines are starting to swell, I am off for once so I was also thinking about doing the block off plates, any suggestions?
