Wow, thats nuts. Awesome, but nuts. I guess I've seen far worse cars restored to good condition, though. You wouldn't believe the '67 Z-28 my neighbor restored.
I actually saw someone who had restored an RX-2 a while back. My dad loved it, since that was his first car.

Anyway, back to the original topic: It would be insane. Just for kicks I looked up the price of a cruise control actuator. Its over $1000 Mazda list price. To replace the cruise system alone you are looking at about 2000 bucks, and thats before the dealer mark-up.

I was driving by the auto wreckers one day and saw it in the line of cars to be crushed. So I bought it.

Hasn't this been discussed before?

And I think you can still buy a NEW FC unibody in white for racing purposes (replacement chassis). Not cheap though, I recall the unibody (which is literally just the shell) was around $8000.

Yeah, you did say it was in good shape. I guess it just looks rough since the paint is shot. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

it would be interesting to see how much everything would cost from mazda for an fc (assuming that you don't add up all the small parts of the motor, but just order a re-man).

i'll add up all the prices over the next month as i have time and post it up.

No. The 4 rotor is for my FC.

That's exactly it. The RX-5 is quite rare almost everywhere and with this one in such good shape, it would be crazy to cut it up. Also, why make a drag car out of a big, heavy luxury car?

The plan is to build a 6 port engine with working aux ports, and a small turbo to boost the low end and midrange. I want the engine to feel a lot larger then it is, be quiet, reliable and get good mileage. I'll probably even run a cat.

limited run. 1986-1992. Turbos only came out 87-91. The number of them has dwindled as people kill motors or whole cars.

I'd buy an FD as a collector car (92-95 run) before an FC but eventually it will be a rotary classic like the RX100, RX2, RX3, RX4, RX5 and FB. The fact that over 700K first gens were built doesn't help with their "collector" status but it can be considered a classic car/vintage rotary car.

Depends on how you look at it. Is the RX7 the car that gets you from point A to point B? Or is the seven the car you chose because of the motor, handling and good looks (which is subjective btw)?

Plus, anyone can gather a large number of items and call it a collection. Hell, you can collect boogers and say you have the world's largest booger collection and nobody can take that away from you.

Who buys stamps as collector's items? How about rocks? Lots of people. WHY? everyone has different reasons.
