Just changed the spark plugs and started the car for the first time in months...
And this is what I saw:
Smells like gas, though. I changed the plugs because it wouldn't start on the old ones, they were thoroughly clogged and filthy, probably a couple years old.
More troubling, however, is that there's a little smoke from the engine bay, and I hear a sizzling sound, somewhere around the intake manifold/turbo area. My first thought was pulsation dampener. Is that around that area?
The car has been sitting since probably November, and we've had lots of snow in the last month... Wondering if the "sizzle" was just the engine burning off water. The smoke from the engine didn't really have a smell to it, but I'm not sure if it was steam or not.

your pulsation damper is up higher but fuel could be dripping down... i had the same problem on my n/a but it was a bad fuel injector O-ring and it was leanking fuel onto my rb header
you also need som air in the rear passenger tire

i have an rx7 non turbo, when i picked it up it hadnt been started and sat under a porch for almost a year .... i had the same smoke and the engine bay had some smoke for about 2 days (first day was only idling for about an hour, second day I drove it around for a couple hours. The smoke in the engine dissapeared the first day and the smoke from tailpip slowly went away but for about a week I got blue smoke on each start

I get all that smoke from the exaust every spring after sitting for the winter. I start it up though once a month when sitting. After it warms up and I take it out it does not do it again all summer.

Well, I decided to tempt fate and went out and restarted it... The smoke from the exhaust was down by 95%. Didn't leave it running long enough to see if there was smoke under the hood.
I'm tearing into the engine bay in a couple weeks anyway, I figure I can get to it then. For now, I'm going to try to degrease as much **** in there as I can. It's absolutely filthy, but hey, what do you expect for $600?

lol when I get a new car i pop the hood and spray the whole thing from top then from the bottom with soap and water (no high pressure... woo that turned out bad that day couldn't figure out where that piece came from well actually I never did...) I find it expecially good because then you can see where leaks are easier after it all dries

I've gone back out a couple times today to let it run here and there, the smoke from the exhaust is virtually gone. I haven't heard anything more from under the hood, but there's always tomorrow.
Only in Rhode Island could I be out working on the car in a t-shirt and jeans at 1 p.m. and have snow later tonight.

Well, started the car and ran it for half an hour today... Lots of smoke at startup, but then it cleared up, no sizzle under the hood, so I think I'm in the clear.
