jspec night mare
So I bought a s4 TII jsec and opan delivery, found it to be trash. I took it back to who I got it from and he hooked me up with an s5. I just tore into it only to find the rotor housings to be scared and two broken apex seals and one missing corner plug. other than that shes sweet. No but really, my question is what type of tollerance is their for groves or gashes in the house, has any one out their being as cheap as i'm going to have to be and use one of these gashed (scrapped) units. P.S I know what FSM says I want to know if their is some hillbilly way to get it going ,thanks Corbit.

The apex seal'swere still in place just broke. I took it to Atkins rotor and Dave said it looked like a turbo fin ate it he said that he would not run it. But I'm pretty broke, and really would like to get this thing up.

Youll only do further damage to the engine, which in the end will cost you more money.

It would be pointless to use a scarred housing. If the apex seals went or cracked, the housing is pretty much useless. Sorry man. Just buy a good used housing, it will save you money, time, and ALOT of headaches down the road.

Screw that......Everyone is so hell bent on getting a rebuild, if you are poor buy a used motor for $200-300 swap everything over and say **** it...it'll get you around untill you can afford a $2300 block from Mazdatrix or wherevever.....GET A USED BONEYARD MOTOR PUT IT IN AND DRIVE THE DAMN THING!

Who sold you this motor? Take it back, they obviously are trashed. Mine came with everything, the inside was beautiful! no scraches, minor carbon, the only thing that was worn to any extent was the apex seals and they still had plenty of life left in them, decided to try the rotary aviation ones instead though, my side seals will probally wear out before the apex now

what i do, and what i recommend alot of people do if they buy JSPECs, is hand turn the motor over with the plugs out and make sure you get consistant "puffs" on each chamber of each rotor. I also take a flashlight and peer through the leading spark plug holes and check the apex seal. If i feel frisky ill remove the exhaust manifold and look through the exhaust port to get a better look.

The engines you got sound like they are for rebuilds only.
If you are getting a Jspec and plan to run it then you need to get compression numbers with it to see what your up against. I'm guessing that engine will only run for a month if your lucky.
SDRotary got me a pretty good Jspec. So far the external parts are nice.
I peeked into it through the exhaust and the front housiong had some topical rust from some water getting in while shipping but the rear housing was fine.
If cleaned out it could probably start up but I'm sending it to Kevin Landers hopefully this week to get rebuilt.

Where's your Jspec? Mines sitting in my garage. I've stripped the Jspec down to short block and know what they look like.
I had my 88 SE sit for 6 months and it started up like a champ. I never use the sitting for a long time slant. I understand that US used engines have a good chance of still running.
Have you seen the Jspec Nightmare threads?
The Jspecs sit in junk yards usually until they are shipped here. They get abused by weather and then sometimes "cleaned" by the importers to make them look good. Mine seemed to be cleaned or maybe just weather abused because the turbo had rust and a weird calcium like deposit on the turbo and exterior.
As for any used engine unless you can see the car it was in or know the owner you have no idea what happened to it in it's life time. You also don't know the mileage unless you get the front clip from Japan.
There was a guy I met at Sevenstock which had gone through a few Jspecs. One lasted him 2-3 months and another lasted 2 years. It's a gamble with them.
I came across some extra money and decide to go the right way now instead of pulling a engine later.
In the end you still have a USED engine. A Rebuild is going to have a much higher chance for longevity than a Used. You can't debate that.
Bleh **** you and the horse you came in on. Being pissed off at people just reduces your life span.

ps.digi- Both your cars are broken bad seals....I have 3 rx-7 that are running...and 2 that are for parts....so while you sit there staring at your cars I am out driving mine.....poser and to check out my life span check this link. I am going to be fine don't worry..

OMFG I have a dead FC I'm am soo jealous yours is driving!!!!!!!
I'll be driving my 88 GTU with a rebuilt TII engine in under a month. It'll have RB DP/Presilencer/CS Single catback/Apex BOV/Redone injectors/Walbro pump and Mazdatrix Hybrid driveshaft.
Don't call me a ******* poser. The only thing I haven't done myself on my cars is a clutch. Which I'll be doing on the new engine. I've even welded the damn diff mount done a PD swap.
My cars blowing seals just proves used cars can go at any time. My 88 GTU went with 102k on the clock and the 88 SE went with 155k on it
The Jspecs have no difference in horse power.
They are cheap cores to get. I got mine because I am doing a Series 4 NA to Series 5 Turbo conversion. It came long block so I have everything needed to swap it.
I live in AZ and there are NO FC's to get parts and engines from so this was a viable option.

I've built my own motors from just used, mix and match what ever gose together. And I'm ceap,what ever it takes to get a piel of used motors, Like Johnny Cash and his Cad. A long the one way one picks up tricks to get by and one to just sand out the scores in the houseing by useing a cly of 2'' warped sand paper, yep the crome gets thin but then I'm only going to the drags

ah yea anyways BRO'S I am broke but not broken I'm taking a trip to the dude I got it from and I'm going to get some money back or another motor cuz this is bad ****. he did give me the hand shake warrenty ,so I'm sure it all be good if not we'll see how he like a rotor up his ***. After futher examination of the rotors it looks like one is as fd. I could be wrong but it has the groves on the rotor and the other one is smooth hey thanks for your input and you 2 are on a time out.

anyway I talked to the guy I bought it from and he said he'd tighten me up fro a housing. But the rotors have a few scratches or gouges in them ,how critticle are sratches Atkins said I could sand them down that sounds great I was just wondering if anyone has done this thanks Corbit
