Brake hardware kits from the dealer (basically a bag full of metal shims) are fairly cheap and, with a little anti-squeal goo, should nix the brake squeal. If you feel like chasing it sometime...

Not to mention that we have a car that can be fixed to get some good HP gains in the "Hose and Garden" section of the local Home Despot.

Just opent he hatch and sit in the trunk. It's not all that difficult to get to that way. By the way, there is way too much extra me around the middle, so it's not a flexibility thing.

Bwahahahah I can see why this is in the 2nd gen forum
If your 2nd gen is not tempermental, you must not drive it.
Lately my car has studdered at 6500 (only sometimes), logicon craps out and works 1/2 the time, window switch broke (fixed it), speedo broke, sunroof broke
God I love her though

well...my ReX's radio reception picks and chooses the times it wants to pick up the good stations. (so I bought a CD player)
Passenger side door only opens from inside, its just a sheered pin, but I dont feel like taking the door apart to fix it, plus I dont have to worry about locking that door if the windows up
My back hatch struts suck, I have to lift it up (at least they still hold the hatch up)
My hood latch spring decided the other day that its not going to pop the hood up the half an inch so I can reach under it, so I have to open the headlights to lift the hood up from the edges.
Lately she's been sputtering a lil bit at about 6500 rpm's, I need to clean my fuel lines/injectors.
My wipers only work on Low (thank God for Rain-X), the warning lights flicker, and my drivers side mirror (its a replacement door) is a power mirror (put onto a car that is power nothing) so I have to adjust it by pushing on the mirror itself.
and the damned cruise control wont work either.
But man do I love my ReX

I guess that means the struts are still good.

Almost all of this correctable by inspecting and re-soldering. The wiper switch, the clock/xmas tree and the CPU can all be pulled and done. I took mine to a small electronics repair shop and had everything back quickly and at low cost.

Read this... all of it.

As a chick who digs her car, i gotta say it's a relief to hear that it's not just my car that's posessed by gremlins.
Antenna: groans
Headlights on warning beeper: ocassionally
interior lights: directly related to likelihood of needing to find something.
clock: intermittant
wipers: just swapped out one switch (with 2 speeds - fast, and flapping away and no off) for another with only 1 - slow. (thanks for th rain-ex tip!)
idle: sounds like i want to race at every light as it revs up looking for the right speed and then falls back down. I need a rune up, i know. i know.
on the other hand, at least the convertible is getting less finicky with use. Nothing like a 95 degree day with no ac and a convertible that won't go down to make you love your car
SO: a little more specifics on the re-soldering: everything?

Let's see, where do I start? My fuel gauge only works above half way ( thank god the idiot lights still work or else I wouldn't know when to fill up!!!), oil pressure gauge works, but drops below where its supposed to stop (it reads less than it actually is), speedo is broke, one speed for wipers, no clock, no music whatsoever (the moron who put the system in before I bought the car had no idea what he was doing, so I just tore everything out because it was pointless trying to get everything how I wanted it to be), the sound of a rotary is good enough music for me though, passenger side window switch doesnt work, windows stop working sometimes, power mirrors not working, driver side door handle and key hole are broken,.......blah blah blah, man I can go on for ages, BUT like others have said, I love my car to death. The funny thing is, I still get a lot of compliments on the car frequently.

The most critical circuit boards to get done are the CPU and the ECU (engine computer, bolted to the floor under the metal shield under the carpet (and the green grass grows all around, all round...) in the passenger side footwell. It's a good idea to yank the clock/xmas tree (warning lights,) too.
After that, you're at your luxury to chase the Auto Adjusting Suspension computer (if you have AAS - my AAS pc was damaged by water penetration - it's in the spare tire well,)
the alarm computer (if your alarm isn't working properly, this may be why - it's under the glove compartment, atteched to the same piece as the passenger side speaker,)
power steering computer (it's attached to the steering column, behind the dashboard - you'll have to stick your head under there,)
and the cruise control computer (it's the golden box mounted just above the CPU.)
These are all fairly easy to get at. Unbolt, unplug and go. And none of the plugs on any one unit is the same, so you don't have to worry about, say, going to put your ECU back in and finding two identical plugs and having no idea which one goes in which receptacle.
There is no computer for the ragtop (just checked the '88 FSM.) The first place I'd look is the switch on the dashboard. Pull it, too, and open it up. The metal contacts may have goop on them, or a piece may be broken. Be very careful and take your time when you open it - these damn things tend to have little springs n' such waiting to jump across the room when you give them a chance.
Then try the motors. There's one on each side of the car. One or both may have a corroded ground wire. A quick scrub with sandpaper will fix that. Then there's a relay and also the harness to check. I'd suggest finding an electronics-nerd friend to check these two out.
You can download the 1988 FSM (Factory Service Manual - big, simple pictures and easy to understand instructions on looking after your 7) at www.iluvmyrx7.com It's free.
Hope that helps...
