Hello again!
When i accelerate and drop the clutch a little too quickly... the car jerks back and forth.... however... say i'm cruising... and i release the throttle, but keep the clutch engaged... and then blip the throttle... the car jerks exactly as it did before, but alot more violently. This happens moreso at lower gears.
I'm running redline in the tranny, i have tried mmo in both oil and gas... tps is set properly, idle set properly, no engine codes... any suggestions?

check racing beat they have something to remedy your problem

 

I remember a post that said it was just a by-product of the rotary engine... something about not liking low RPM... maybe just don't blip the throttle? My car does this too... just be gentle on the throttle and it is pretty smooth... don't get off it unless you want to slow down...

 

I don't know how common it is in RX-7s, but it sounds like a broken or loose motor mount.

 

Raymr: Thanks buddy, but all the mounts are perfect. I had an engine rebuild not too long ago, and he replaced all of them. Mind you, this issue occurred before and after the rebuild. As long as this is a common issue, i won't worry too much. Do all of you experience this?

Yeah my '89 GTU does the same thing. I've been messing with my TPS, and can't get the jerkiness to go away. You can really feel the jerkiness in first gear, clutch all the way engaged and just idling, like in a parking lot or something. If you give it just a little gas, it will jerk you, your foot comes off the gas a little and you decelerate, then your foot hits the gas again and jerks you off the gas. It can be an evil cycle for people not used to driving the car, but I'm getting used to it and know how to drive to not make the car do it as much.

 

Check the plug into your air meter. A friend had the same issues with a N/A and it turned out to be a faulty plug into the air meter.

 

i would also check the play in your throtle cable if it's not sufficient then it will open the throtle to much when crusing at low speed. also make sure your throtle plates are opening correctly, if you have done the tb mod then you will get this more easily from my experience. and i would also check your timing if it's advanced you can get that jerking from the engine.

Your deceleration system needs work.

There several components that prevent bucking including the air pump (feeds into the main catalytic converter from a seperate hose). I had this problem on my TII. The TPS & tuneup did help, but I still need to reconnect the airpump and put in a "nicer" performance clutch.

 

Thanks guys. I think the TPS is set properly, however. I've double/triple/quadruple checked it over and over... its at 1.00 volts perfectly. Now you're right, if you're used to it, you can control it quite a bit... but it gets rather emberassing if you do it with someone else in the car... I'll check out my MAF today and see how that is. Maybe it is just the plug... possibly the entire MAF... however, when you move the door, it does seem to choke and change the car's idle. Thanks again

Yup. I'll be getting that item soon. I would just like to know if this problem can be resolved by getting the torque brace.
