Whats the difference between the japanese t2 cluster and the us cluster besides the 180 speedo? and could you use it in the us car?

as long as they are S4 to S4 or S5 to S5. The surround is backwards so the signals are on the right and the cruise is on the left. So without changing the wiring it would be hard to use the surround. Do you have the surround with Cruise control? I need one.

You have a Jspec cruise? When it is pointing to the left you will be able to read the writing on it. how much do you want for it? I have a few surrounds or can at least buy a jspec one if I need it.

I'm pretty sure you'll find all the different calibrations for different speedos (160mph in the US, 180km/h in Japan, 240km/h in Australia, etc) is done internally, so if you stick this in a US car it will read accurately, i.e. it will run out of numbers at 112mph. Seems pretty pointless to me.

And the ECU gets the signal from the speedometer.
The gauge cluster is used for more than just seeing "what's going on". There are several circuits that feed the ECU, cruise control, power steering computer, etc.

And technically it is an abbreviation, since it's a shortened version of a word.

We call them Jap imports because they're from Japan and it's a convenient abbreviation. If it was from Germany it would be called a German import because "Ger import" doesn't quite work.

What is the advantage of going from a 160 mph speedometer, to a 112 mph speedometer??? If anything, you would think folks would want to have a 180mph, or a 200mph speedometer.

i think the 0-180 kph is wicked.... yeah sure top speed is >120mph, but who's gonna be going that fast not being on the track? plus, i think you'll feel a bit more excited seeing the speedometer buried past the 180kph mark...
i think it's appropriate the gauge only goes so far, because in winding roads, you wouldnt even dare to go that fast...
btw: i have one for sale for $25! i'm having a "special" [only for memorial day weekend], so today would be the day you'd want a jspec cluster! tomorrow, they're going to be $50!
