Just wait for people to purchase an EMS...gotta do something with the stock ECU.

I think I promised I'd post in here after i got my jspec.. so I have my jspec, and its in. Compression #s are around 110PSI front and rear, runs fantastic. Manages to start the car with a nearly totally dead battery (car was cranking at like 50-60RPM.. very slooooowwww) and it fired on the 5-6th rev. Aside from some external engine issues (my fault) it seems to be perfect

Nope. They're not. Any motor made for the Japanese market, rotary or not, is a J-spec. Japanese Specifications

Oh, and my actual thread content: I still don't have my car running. No J-Spec appraisal from me yet.

Maybe I should've said the only Jspec motors worth getting are the 13BT's

Well,

I have been trying since Feb. to get a decent engine from Soho\Soko Trade. I finally deciding that it wasn't worth it dealing with these ******** anymore, so the last engine that I received, the one that I could turn the flywheel with all 4 spark plugs one, is in process of a full overhaul!

Advice to those buying Jspec:

-Get all of the information on paper buying sending any payment (you'll be amazed on how everything changes once they have the $$$)

AVOID SOHO\SOKO TRADE!!!

Ha ha...a thread that will not Inevitibly die. Good. It's encouraging for past, present and future J Spec owners to post.

Anyway, I got what appears to be a mint s5 Motor. We are talking zeo shaft play and was realitively clean when I got It. The big question that reoccurs, unaswered, Is If I'm going to rebuild and street port It.

Based on what I've seen so far, It's a good bet It's a drop In. I'd like to hope I can come back and post In confidence after all Is said and done. We'll see.

who is good to go to if you want one that has mods already on it, or is it just luck of the draw.

Up date time! I opted to have the s5 Motor rebuilt, streetported, sandblasted and painted with awesome results. Awhile the Motor was In pieces, It was determained I did In fact have a Motor that was In great shape Inside as It was outside. Fortunately for me, It worked out for me at the end. I guess I was lucky...

You can read about my bad experience buying a J-spec from Jap Performance here. Unfortunately, you can't take a businesses' word on anything seriously. And distance is a hell of a buffer zone for those businesses that would screw people over with immunity to answerability. Any Aussies that would like to ask these guys what the big idea is in person?

If I had it to do over again, I'd skip the BS and get a rebuilt engine, and buy all the parts separately that I needed for my TT into a GSL-SE swap.

I believe it really depends with who you deal, I delt with a yard in japan and they even showed me videos and compression checks of what they were selling. A bit more but its worth it. But over all dont get stuff directly form japan because shipping and customs will rape you.

Get a Jspec motor close to were you live and if possible compression check it yourself.

My friend bought an S5 T2 with a J-spec already put in it. Engine was in there for 50,000 miles when he got it and he's put a few thousand hard miles on 'em and it still runs fine. Probably got a good one.

Update: 1 .5 years, 30,000 miles later.

compression: 104 front, 100 rear. Engine has been overheated twice, once badly. Has taken 30-40 HARD pings. Sat all winter. Overrevved to 9K+ once.

still runs great.
if I went out into the parking lot right now and it was dead, I'd be upset, but I wouldn't feel ripped off. I couldn't have got a better motor for the price.
