I ordered a 13B-RE from Dave at fc3s.org. Turned out the rear rotor only had 30psi, e-mailed Dave the day after I figured that out and the next week I had another engine waiting at the loading dock for me. I would deff order from fc3s.org, if it's bad for whatever reason they take care of you.
P.S. but I still don't know if it's totaly good yet, still about $3000 from running it but it did have 3 even bounces on my gauge for what ever thats worth.

I haven't personally bought a J-Spec, but I have installed them for others and helped install the rest.
In the past few months I have dealt with 4 J-Spec engines. 3 from one source (who I will not name) and one from a different source.
Out of the 4 engines that have been through our garage at the house, two were completely dead (apex seals embedded in the rotor face), one went to lunch a couple of days after installation (had a funky idle), and one is running perfectly.
3 out of 4 dead J-Specs makes me weary of getting one when the time comes.
One thing to note though, all of the dead engines are being taken care of by the vendors with no complaints! All in all, if you don't get one that runs, most vendors will work with you and get another one to you quickly.

Again, my $.02.
I went to buy a bass guitar. The guy says, oh, this guitar is pretty cool, it's $400... Then in 6 months or so, you will be too good of a player for it and will want a better one, which is this model, for $800.
The moral of my story?
I would rather pay double the price for something I know will last, that I will be happy with, and that is done the right way rather than settle for something which might need to be replaced.
As for how they all have 30,000 miles or less on them, it is my understanding that there is a law in Japan that you have to change your engine every 30,000 miles... At least, that's what a buddy of mine who was stationed in Japan told me.

yah im gonna go with that one, no law. but ive bought 2 motors from makoto and both times had excellent shiping from california (4 days) to chicago, IL and paid 855 to my door both times (no price changes in 6 months). i blew my last one to carelessness on MY part so i will definitely buy another from muy supplier. best part is they always have them in stock.

for the price... you can get like 3 J-specs for the price of 1 mazda reman,
so just buy 2 motors find a good rotary mechanic.... take your original motor, the 2 j-specs and have him rebuild your original motor using the other 2 for parts making 1 frankenstein original motor.

I personally believe that because Japan's Transportation system is so sophisticated and efficient, many people choose to ride the train, rather than drive a car. Plus, the cities are really close to each other, so some people ride bikes/walk there.
bio-rotary, I feel your pain. My motor is blown too, and I found a hell of a deal on a new one, but they want alot to put it in, so I won't be driving for a while.

one reason for j-specs to have such low k's is they spend half their time idleing in traffic... 30k of stop start sitting idle in traffic is very different to 30k actually driving...

I always heard that it was more expensive to register your car and have insurance on it after a certain mileage. Of course I don't live there so I have no idea if this is true or not.
I have played with 3 different J-spec engines. 2 of them we just swapped directly into the cars and they worked great. The third one is my 2nd gen engine. I pulled it apart to port it. It looked brand new inside! I've never seen a used engine look so good. Now its ported and it runs better than ever!

This is the real deal on all Japan cars. In japan they base your insurance/ reg fees on the amount of mileage on your engine.. Sometimes if the car has alot of miles, its cheap to replace it with new, than to pay the extra price in fees to keep driving the older more polluting engine.
I got one from Nippon Motors and it was a perfect engine, and hit full boost on stock guage before 2000 rpm...Its been running for over 1 year now at 10 psi...

I know this isnt RE but still a Jspec engine story. I baught a red top SR20DET Silvia clip from Neislin motors over the summer. It came to $2400 plus shipping. Wow what a damn headache. After pulling the engine all the oil poured out. They didnt have any warrientys or such. I had to yell at them for 2 weeks straight for my money back. Now I have my FC:P With my experince you need to go to known dealers that carry nice warrentys. My $.02
