IT's GONE!!!!
Well after deciding to use the block weld method to fix my oring problem temporarily i went to go do it friday but when i tried to start it during the radiator flush, it couldnt .... water in compression chamber so i figured "yep, definately gone...." so I then went looking for a shop to take the 1986 rx7 to and i called rotary performance, they said about $2400 for the block and about $900 for the labour.... (does something seem wrong with this picture) it seems a little steep... but then again im a nooB to the rotary, but a rebuild on a v8 is $1200, and know that the rotary is more specialized than a v8 but @ $3300 .... well let me know whats up and if you think there is a better place to take my engine.... 2400 is a normal price your going to see as a rebuild number. you can get a rebuild done by www.rotaryresurrection.com for somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500$ putting the engine in is nothing too hard. save you 1500 bucks at least

And yes, 3300 is high. Can be as cheap as 1100 and as expensive as 3000+

sorry, but if you live in dallas, consider yourself lucky. rotary performance is one of the best in the world.. i use to live around the corner from them... yes you pay but, you also get it, top notch. CHRIS and ARI are the god fathers of rotary racing, here in the states.... when all the wanttobe shopps are closed, they will still be around.

Check out Marvelspeed in Rowlett, the times I've been in their shop they have really shown some knowledge. The shop is just down the street from me... takes about 2 minutes to get there.

rebuild it yourself. Don't spend more than a 1000$
Plus, you'll know fo sho how a rotary works then!
And rent any tools you need from Autozone - I've done tons of work like that and I have friends that have with no specialized tools or anything (in extreme cases occasionally I'll get my grandfather to mill me tools - and i'm not kidding - thats how i got the flywheel/flexplate bolt off he milled me a socket that i could put a pipe wrench on)

Yes, but you can still open it up, check things out, get housings, and rebuild it.
I rebuilt mine with the help of someone from the forums. I had to replace the rear housing & rotor, and I replaced the front housing too. It's still running 1000 miles later (got it back in 3 weeks ago).
Plus, they're really not that complex.

why, its forum decorum to use the search function first. many people hang around here if nothing more than for the satisfaction of helping someone. By wasting everyones time opening up threads that ask a question which gets asked 4 times a week - well it wastes a bunch of time for all. maybe if a few more people told newbee's to search less bs would make it in the forum. And to address you earlier comment of 2400 as a normal price. NOPE its a high price. RR starts at 1000.00. I can do motors all day long with new rotor housings for 2K-2200 and I think that is high.

Brain D. Cain is awesome builder, he did Erk's car. The only problem I've heard about him is that he's swamped with work, you should find him and give him a call. He's cheaper then Rotary Performance.
