FL Intermittent Vibrations Revisited

I need your input on this subject. New drive shaft, wheels balanced and no broken mounts. It was suggested by another member to possibly be clutch chatter. When I do get the vibrations I will push in the clutch pedal a few times and it goes away. What kind of problem am I facing. Suggestions and your help is appreciated. Car isi a 91 N/A
Thank You in Advance

Can you give us a few more details, please?

I'm assuming from your post about driveshaft and wheel balance that this only happens when moving, right?

Does this happen on acceleration, deceleration, coasting in neutral, or at a constant speed?

When you push the clutch in, does it only go away because you've gone under some certain speed that it normally disappears at anyway?

Does this only happen in a certain speed range?

Cheers!

It happens when you are moving at any speed when it is rolling along 20-70 MPH and when I pump the clutch the vibation smooths out. It does not go away on its own. Again it is intermttant and when it s there the clutch pedal has to be pumped a few times. deceleration does not seem to be a problem.

Unbalanced rotating assembly? Is the motor stock?

Who rebuilt it? It could possibly be a bearing going bad...

Have you ever run it out of oil?

understood, but why does it smooth out when I pump the clutch pedal a few times. Perry from rotary performance did the rebuild. Never ran out of oil and always castrol 20-50 every 3000 miles.

Bad pilot bearing? causes the clutch disc to get off center and out of balance.

Thank You for the input and I think the bad pilot bearing makes sense.

What brand is the clutch? Is it Centerforce?

Not sure it was put in quite a few years ago, That is why I am leaning towards the pilot bearing.

Rotary Performance sells Centerforce clutches. If they did the rebuild, they may have installed a CF clutch. See if you can find out. I have a CenterForce Dual Friction that I bought from a forum member.

I love the feel and function of the clutch, have about 1500 miles on it so far.

HOWEVER, the weights had obviously been running off center when I recieved the clutch. You could see the slight wear marks. I centered the weights before installing. I also corresponded with Center Force engineer regarding the issue. I was concerned that the off center weights would cause vibration.

He didn't think that it was possible for the weights to remain off-center during operation- because the weights would self-center when the clutch fingers were pressed in during operation.

I have experienced some slight intermittent vibrations that are not typical of my car after installing the clutch. I marked the drive shaft before removal and reinstalled it the correct way. I have rechecked and re-torqued all of the bolts on the tranny and drive shaft-nothing is loose.

My vibrations occasionally occur around 25-30 mph. If I accelerate to 35+mph, they go away. Never experienced it at other speeds.

Attached are two pics. In 195, you can clearly see the weights are off center. In 198 the weights are re-centered and you can clearly see the wear line on the fingers in the top of the picture.

Thank You for the response's. I will have to wait awhile until I find another job. The car does not go anywhere right now and the longest trip I take is to see my granddaughter and that is only 5 miles.
