Unhappy Intermittent No Start....Update #37 1/2...

OK...she just did it again....I'm getting 9 1/2 volts while cranking but no go.....jumped the relay on the steering column....no go....could it be my main injector relay or perhaps no vacuum getting to the fpr to open it up ??

Aw, crap, lol...I was hoping we had it...

If you're getting voltage on the meter from the pump connector back there, you won't need to jumper the relay, that's what's giving you the voltage...

You said this doesn't happen when she's warm, so don't worry about your vac to your FPR either- if the pressure regulator control solenoid was screwed, you'd have higher fuel pressure in the rails instead, of none. But, ya never know, we'll keep that part of the equation in mind...(the solenoid shuts off vac to the fpr to raise the pressure, so even if it wasn't working at all you should have normal fuel pressure- tried to explain it a little better)

I can't see the relay being bad, if you're getting voltage...

Now I think we need to put the meter on the ECU & see what those injectors (and ignition) are doing during the no-start, because we've gone over the entire fuel system now...Agree?

oh yeh...I have put my two spare ECU's in at different times and she will still do it...so its not likely "in the ECU" so perhaps you have something in mind as an indicator...

ps ps...oh yes...I'm still wondering why there does not seem to be much pressure on the rails when I took off the fuel line on other trys...maybe just a fluke...I have taken the line loose before on Rx's and it sprays a lot as it comes off....

Hmmm...why is the pressure bleeding off, and why doesn't the pump pressurize the line in the time you're cranking it? You've got voltage right "on top" of the pump practically, and you've checked the ground (let's hope you found the right ground- you could always make your own just for the pump, since you know which wire it is now- hey, that might be an idea...)

You're going to get voltage at the point you're checking it, even if the ground is bad, so we're still not completely sure the ground is solid...

Let's stick with the fuel for now, because of what you said in that 3rd post...or was it 4th?...above...

Man, between you & Digi7ech, I'm mentally drained, lol...

How would you like to run a new ground for that pump wire? Put it as close to the pump as possible, as long as it's bolted to a good bare metal area...What d'ya think?

Yes< I can do that...It must be the black one coming into the connector by the fuel pump, right? Now there is one coming off of the fuel pump inside the tank to the body of the pump holder mechanism...and that wire is grounded to the top of the mechanism assemble just...so maybe I could run one from that one to a good ground first...

hey, I hear you about being drained...this is quite a job...you know how much this means to me and others like me that own Rx's...matter of fact...Im going to write a testimony to that and post it now...

No, leave the one grounded at the pump plate- it's a bonding jumper, for safety reasons (grounds static electricity)...

I PM'd ya, read that too...

Let's see, the actual fuel pump harness had different colored wires than the chassis harness last time I had to "play" with mine, so let's concentrate on cutting the wire on the car-side of the harness connector (not the pump side).

There should be a black wire in that harness, heading back towards that ground you found earlier. Cut it wherever is a good location for you (near an existing threaded bolt hole on the chassis would be nice), as close to that connector as you want to get (but leave enough room so you're not "jerking" on it when you have to pull that connector apart)...

Got me so far?

Hey...I got a kick out of how some of those guys reacted to me showing a little grattitude...it takes all kinds, don't it...lol I also meant to mention thats another thing I find entertaining is seeing all of the different opinions on here...
I ve been to several technicians over the years and this is really good help...

will fill you in later or tomorrow after I make that mod...
thanks again....

yeh....I was thinking of doing a power test with the meter before grounding...black should be ground...it usually is...
