intercooler water spray?

yo what's up guys
well i recently got into the fc3s and will be purchasing a t2 hopefully soon. before i was really into impreza's and one aspect of WRX's i found relates to the t2 is their top mounted intercooler and hood scoop. it's basically set up the same as the t2's BUT they have one added feature--the intercooler water spray. it's been available since the old model STI WRX's overseas and also on the new generation one (but sadly not on the American WRX). there's a switch on the drivers side (http://www.mrtrally.com.au/performance/photo/mrt227.jpg) and it's pressed usually after a while of hard driving to cool down the intercooler. from what i understand u just press it, its sprays, u see a lil steam come out of the hood scoop, and supposedly it helps cool down things a bit. here's another pic of the setup http://www.mrtrally.com.au/performance/photo/mrt228.jpg those with high speed connections might want to check out this 48 mb clip. http://www.4rati.lv/video/different/...wrx_vs_evo.avi
it's a french video comparison of the STI ad EVO. at around 1:03 they show the spray in action. also here's some more technical reference. http://www.autospeed.com/A_0527/P_1/article.html
whats everything think about that? has anyone done that setup on their t2 fc3s? i imagine that it could also be setup custom to spray a FMIC too.

I think the Autospeed IC water spray control module is sheer brilliance. It's definitely on my near-future shopping list!
Everyone should read the Autospeed articles anyway because the background info on intercoolers is very informative and dispells a few myths about how they really work

In my opinion, it's a good idea and it helps... but wouldn't you rather convert to a large front mount intercooler?
For the money spent on the water spray system, pick up a used volvo intercooler, which is the largest size you can fit up front for like $40-60 and a bit of piping and clamps from the hardware store and you have a very good FMIC system as good as many boughten systems. I would imagine this would cool a lot better than the stock top mount with a spray option.

sure would, adding a misting sprayer to a FMIC gets the intake air temps even lower

I dunno man. Just get two windshield washer sprayers. point them at the IC. Get a water tank, washer motor, and a switch. That sounds easier than a FMIC project. Of course I don't speak from expericence and anything that appears easy ends up taking a lot of cussing

My friend did this with an old windshield washer resivior, and he got a sprayer at home depot. I think it cost him a total of like 10 bucks. I was considering also spraying an alrernative to water like co2 or even NOS, what do you guys think?

Liquid cooled aircraft (like the P-51 Mustang) have been using spray bars to provide extra cooling for years. Other aircraft have been using a water injection system to give a temp. compression boost and prevent detonation as well.

On the spray bar a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water work very well. If I remember the ratio is aboit 10 percent isopropyl to 90 percent water. The main function of the alcohol is to make the water wetter.

the smalled the water droplets landing on the I/C core, the more effective it is at removing the heat

NOS is very commonly used.
The windshield washer trick is also great for lining up a system to spray bleach onto the rear tires for deep blue smoke burnouts.
