Insurance Costs on the FC?!?!
Hey, I recently checked with my insurance company (Progressive), and they quoted me at $830 for every 6mo. --- this is with the Good grade discount, and also the driver's ed discount. My 2002 Mustang was $850 every 6mo, so why would a car that is half the value of my mustang be only $20 less than it? That's just like paying 1/6th of the car every 6mo.!!! Anyone else think that this is ridiculous?

Does the FC have ABS, airbags, etc..?? The safety equipment of the car comes into play with insurance companies. Also, the cars seating capacity (2 in the FC vs 4 in the mustang) puts it more into the sportscar category. They also rate a car sometimes on crash ratings, and cars that are prone to theft, etc...

maybe its because your under 20???
More FC's are wrecked, blown up, damaged, and abused by drivers under 20 than any other age group.
Insurance companies charge based on what it costs them to insure someone and how much they have to payout.

BTW I wouldn't tell them your on-line name here, as that would not instill a good driver persona on their image of you

Yeah I agree with you guys, but it still seems like it should be around $750 or so... My insurance discounts like $15 for straight A's, which is BS! And like another $30 for Driver's Ed.... they discount crappily... yes, I said crappily, and I don't have a problem with it, do you?!?!

Also, if at all possable, but the car in a parents name. I put my FC in my mom's name, and I pay about $20/month for it Ive never had an accident, or tickets(knock on wood), and I took some drivers ED class when I was still in high-school, which lowered it also.

many factors go into what you pay for insurance. My mom actually works for an insurance company and printed out the symbol page for Mazda cars. IIRC the scale goes from a standard 1-27 (highest) and then additional variables are added on the symbol that is assigned to the car. For example the fc NA was a 16 or 17 on the scale and the t2 was only one above it. Also on some cars there is a letter assigned after the symbol such as 18H (the H meaning high risk) which is what I remember seeing on the t2.

I recently asked my insurance company how much i pay and what coverage i have and i found out that it costs me 1800 a year for my FC with FULL coverage. Its kinda expensive and ive been driving for 5 years. The main things from what my insurance told me is that A. the car has no air bags, and B. the car is expensive to insure. Like the person above said it carries a high symbol which means that its generally a more expensive car to fix which raises the price also. Keep in mind though that insurance rates vary from state to state, and mostly your age will determain how much you pay.

I pay $111 a month and that includes full coverage on my 94 Explorer, my wifes 96 Escort, and liability on my 86 GXL. The insurance company (Geico) asked if it was turbo or not. I'm 24 and I'm stationed in South Dakota with no recent tickets.

well, I only pay $460 a year for full coverage, on my 'vert with a full replacement rider including all the mods (since it has a 13BT and driveline in it).
I could probably bring that down if I put one of the other cars on the policy.
But that is also because I am 40, and don't have any points on my current record.
