Octane does not clean injectors nor carbon *deposites*. It only protects against knocking; nothing more, nothing less. Chevron, 76 and Shell will keep your fuel system clean. See www.toptiergas.com. Stick with 87 octane for a N/A, maybe 91 for a turbo. Chevron sells a good "Techron" fuel system cleaner. But that's not your problem. You need to fix your car.

he does need to fix his car but I'm going to go out on a limb here and disagree with the fact that it DOES clean deposits.
And it has better mpg

u don't run higher than 87 in an N/A...it's a waste of $$money$$

posted by Icemark:

Do we have to have another thread on this??? The search function is found in the uer right hand corner of the page...

If LittleCon had searched he (or she) would have found that anything more than 87 octane on a stock FC motor actually is more likely to cause problems, and will actually result in less HP.

See the octane rating has absolutely nothing to do with BTU or power output. The only thing higher octane numbers do, is make it harder to pre-ignite. It makes the burn slower. Higher octane does not contain any additional power or performance unless the motor was designed or tuned to run on a higher octane (and even then the additional power is only a result of higher compression or boost along with computr processing).

In fact (more so on a non-turbo) you want the gas to ignite as easy as possible. Lower octane on a rotary with less than a 10:1 compression actually burns cleaner and faster than a higher octane.

So using higher octanes on a stock motor will result in increased deposits on the rotor faces(which could result in pre-mature engine failure), less power, and less money in your wallet.

So why would you waste the money and buy anything but 86 or 87 octane???

And finally, thread closed. Covered and proven countless times before.

If I let my tank get low it does that.... Hesitates n' what not.. I figure I must have trash in the tank, and my fuel filter needs replacement... My car sat for about 2 years with very little gas in the tank so I assume that there must be water in it....

check your injectors..... the problem is two things

1) injectors problem

2) vacuum leak

i think its injectors cuz most vacuum leaks are noticeable at idle

also it might not be your injectors at all rather it could be injector grommets

i experienced the same problem earlier this year and well first checked for vac leaks (found one) didnt fix my problem... then checked injectors and found that the grommets needed to be replaced on the primaries
