installing solid engine mounts

Hey all, I am about to drop my engine in but need to know wether I should use the solid mount inside of the metal cups that originally contained the rubber bushings; Or should I eliminate them altogether? The depth of the solid mount by itself is less than the stock cups + rubber but I also know that the rubber would compress under the weight of the engine(THESE ARE SCALLIWAG ALUM. MOUNTS).

Thanks ahead of time!

i dont know, but I would think they would not support the weight like you said they compress, I would say try it and see what happens if it does not work then just buy/fab up some solid mounts or buy an upgraded poly mount from ...um....damn what company is that, they have ther BBQ every year...damn..i forgot.

I'm looking for people that have installed these solid mounts in their 2nd gens and have used their setup for awhile. I like to get things right the first time so I don't have to backtrack/screw something up.

i did some custom 6061 aluminum mounts for my 88 t2 and N/A. do not install solid mounts the vibration is terrible. go to mazdatrix or racingbeat or mazdacompetion to get stiff rubber mounts they are worth the money

I happen to like my super hard UHMW mounts that were made by Mr. Bob. Installation is a snap, do not use the stock metal cup, fit and finish on mine are impecable and the vibration is not bad at all. The best part was that the car would jar you much harder on pedal tip in, so I know the mounts are doing their job. At a stand still, the engine does not vibrator or torque over with revs. Engine sits at stock height.

Had the mounts, lift, and engine so I figured I cant starve the engine bay forever so I put it in without the cups. So far so good. Looks like a good fit. anyone who wonders as I did how scalliwag engine mounts are supposed to be used there's your answer......I think?!

BTW is mr Bob.............Scalliwag?or someone else?
