Thanks for the link Mark, but i'm just saying i'd love to have one, but doing that and being able to drive it legally on american soil is a nightmare. If i ever got an Infini id probably part all of it onto an american chassis just to make it legal, in other words a total waste, so it sits as just a dream for now. To all of you out there with Infini models, covet your children.

My american FC has that sticker too, by choice, as there where no emblems before, just bought one from corksport for cheap. So mine says savanna too ^_^

last night I stopped to see a friend that has Infini III, he wanted to see my car and I wanted to check his paint code.

his paint code was GU shade green. just like my Infini IV. he has a friend in mainland japan with IV also. and he called him and his paint code was GU also. I have yet to see a IV with a VQ paint code.

about the power steering pump

my Infini IV has 2 hoses and no neutral sensor, his Infini III has 3 hoses and neutral sensor on it.

I took pics of this today. I will post them in a little bit.

wow, intresting that they went to engine speed steering instead of vehicle speed steering on the IV... I guess to save weight.

I had asked him to find out about the paint code. My car's build plate say GU for the paint code, and it made me wounder.

Info he got back was that the
1st 300 Infini IV cars built from June - Dec 1990 are paint code GU Shade Green
the other 300 Infini IV cars built starting Jan 1991 are paint code VQ
of the 300 1991 Infini IV cars 20 of them where sent to Mazda Speed for the Mazda Speed Package. Minor cosmetic changes only.

I asked him to get me as much info as he can. also I asked for info on all Infini's their paint codes and equipment

I have an update on this that needs to be corrected.

I received a second email from my friend at Mazda. He says that after doing more research on the FC3S paint codes. That he cannot find any Infini FC3S that was painted VQ noble green mica. He also says that all the 1990 and 1991 Infini IV was only in two paint codes.

GU Shade Green
PZ Brilliant Black

A total of 600 cars.

400 GU Shade Green
200 PZ Brilliant Black

Your paint code info is interesting and confusing, because my car is definitely the same colour as yours but it has the paint code PZ.

I'm positive it's never been repainted because over the years I've had lots of interior trim bits out and seen lots of places that could only have been repainted if the car was stripped back to a shell. The paint is also a bit thin in some of those hidden places, pretty normal for a factory paintjob. The whole shell is definitely one shade of green.

Any ideas?

I looked at the pictures of your car and your car is green in color. Im not sure why your is green and you say the paint code is PZ. I think your car must have been repainted at some time.

can you post a picture of your cars build plate? you can edit out your vin if you dont want that posted. I will get a picture of my plate when I get him.

PZ is Brilliant Black not matter where in the world the car is from be it the States or Japan

Here's a pic the chassis plate.

I'm 100% sure the car's never been repainted as there would be plenty of evidence of this under carpets and behind trims. After 5+ years of regularly pulling this thing apart I'm pretty familiar with all its nooks and crannies. I've never seen anything but green paint, some of it quite thin over the undercoat.

Very weird...

In looking at your picture of build plate and being its held on with screws, something is fishy with your car. it should be revited on so you cant remove it. and also have 2 different screws is really out of place. Your car might have been green to start out with and someone put build plate from a differnt (black) fc at some point. I have never seen a vin plate on fc before is that a NZ thing? The Japanese vin should be stamped in the firewall a little more to the right of where your vin plate is. Its also stamped into the frame

did you buy the car in auction in japan and ship it to NZ? or buy it local in NZ.

you can see where my vin number is stamped into the firewall in this picture

I will get a better picture of it on friday. by the time I get home from work its already dark.

The screw on the right does look like a factory one, and is really small, too small to have been a replacement for a rivet. The screw on the left is actually holding the alarm siren in place, as was put in by the alarm installer.

Yep, all cars sold in NZ, including imports, get one at time of first registration. The NZ VIN is a different number to the chassis number.

The Japanese vin should be stamped in the firewall a little more to the right of where your vin plate is. Its also stamped into the frame
The chassis number stamped into the firewall matches the chassis number on the plate. If someone's welded in a different chassis number they've done an excellent job of hiding it. There's a lot of bumps and ridges in the area and none show any signs of tampering or bogging.

I bought it from a lady who's then-boyfriend, a car importer, found it for her in Japan and brought it back with a shipment of cars for his yard.

I wonder if it's just a mistake? Maybe the wrong code was stamped onto the plate. It does seem fishy, but other than the paint code I can't find any clues that hint at illegal doings.

Damned if I know...

To interject, I have owned both an '87 base and an '87 Sport and both had VIN plates like NZ's held in by two tiny screws (just like on the right of NZ's plate). My friend had at one time an '88 GXL and it too had the VIN plate on the firewall. I currently have a '91 Coupe and it does not have a plate or even a mounting location for a plate. Of course all of the models I speak of were US spec.
