Important Question 91 rx7
Hello, I just bought a 91 rx7. I am not familiar with the rotary engine and I basically need the engine hooked up. It is a JDM engine twin turbo. It is sitting in the car, just not hooked in. The previous owner estimated two days labor, how accurate is this and how much money am I looking at spending on installation? Thanks

Does it have any markings on it that you can see? Say 13B-RE or REW anywhere? Got a picture? Maybe it's a custom engine swap, in that case you're in for a load of fun! (note EXTREME sarcasm)

I know its a 13B something. Twin Turbo sequential. It is a Jspec engine. Cost approx 2,300 for the engine. If that tells you anything, thats about all I know...

depends what you have....
you will most likly need a standalone ecu.. and lots of custom parts to make everything work. you probably have alot of work ahead of you.

Well, assuming everything's mounted and bolted together (tranny/etc), all you should need is to hook up a standalone, run the coolant lines/oil lines, hook up the FMIC, add the exhaust, and remove all the emissions bullshit, and you're set (assuming it's that far) And a few other time consuming things I don't know, since I've never done that sort of swap myself!

I don't know of anybody near chicago who can do a 13B-RE swap, and less than $1,000 for install would be asking for a shitty job. Is the engine *in* the car and bolted in/mounted to the tranny at all? Or is it just sitting outside of the car?

It's a lot of fabrication work, matching up engine mounts, wiring the standalone, I'm pretty sure you can bolt it to a stock TII transmission without a problem, then you have to rip of all the emissions hardware unless you honestly feel like going through that. If you already have the engine mounts that match for the FC, you're in good shape. But I don't know anyone in the chicago area who's capable of it, infact I haven't seen much rotary scene anywhere in chicago, they're hiding I guess
