Images and Video from Sears Point on the 10th

It was a wet and wild Sunday at Sears Point, the day dawned with serious rain going over the Richmond bridge, it certainly didn't look good as we headed to the track. When we got there, it was clear, thankfully. I ran Group 4 HPDE, so we were 2nd group out, the first session was very damp. Jeff Mohler in his 3rd gen and I hooked up for some great laps.
Here's video of that session, in this video Jeff is leading, we zoom past a couple of 944s, and an E36 M3? or 3 series..

2nd part of that session, Jeff has opened up a great lead, but his car wasn't handling very well in the dampness, and eventually I make most of it up going into turn 4 and he decides to let me go and chase me.. He gets some great views of me getting sideways going into turn 7. We then catch an Integra GS-R and a race VW..

2nd session of the day looked very ominous.. Dark clouds looked very close, but we were only getting minor sprinkles on the car as we sat waiting for the session to begin.. Turn2, someone turned on a faucet. I can't see (and I have no windshield wiper working, gotta fix that ASAP), I get major sideways after touching the inside berm, and slowly limp back to the paddock..
3rd sesson was very strange, the racing line was very dry, but all the passing zones were damp to very wet.. Session starts chasing a turbo Miata, he and I get past a serious race 1st gen RX-7, then track down and pass the Miata and 2 944s going into turn 7.. Once I'm offline, you can see the water on the track, I lock up the brakes, manage to avoid slamming into a very expensive 944... Next lap catch a BMW M6, then a Lotus 7 kit car, and a 1st gen RX-7 race car down turn 9. I catch a 2nd gen RX-7 race car going into the carousel, and a Integra race car having engine trouble out of the esses.. The video ends passing a Civic SSC race car going into the hairpin.. Sorry about the video focus, I should have checked the zoom setting.

The 4th session, the video is 36 mb, but it's worth it I start out chasing a TriPoint SSB Protege in a conga line with a bunch of other cars.. We pass a Stealth VR4 into the hairpin, then get by the Protege going into turn 7.. I chase down the hatchback Civic coming up the main straight, only to get passed by the Miata Turbo.. He and I chase down the BMW M6. the Miata gets by the M6, and a VW race car, while I'm stuck behind the M6.. The M6 and I get past the VW, but I can't catch him down the back straight, and he gets a good lead going into turn 7.. I start reeling him back in through the esses.. The miata is there again, as well as an ITC CRX race car.. I get past the CRX again, and the video ends with Carl in his turbo 2nd gen getting past me going into turn 3..

Felix,
That's how I knew what I did wrong in that spin, I watched my brake indicator in other laps, and I was well off the brakes by the time I reached the spot where I spun.. Damn BMW suckered me with all his brake tapping.. hehehe

I'm running OS9.2 AND OSX (have to restart to switch) I tried downloading the WMP from MCRS but every time, it crashes my machine. I have a brand new G4 with dual 1ghz processors and 1.5ghz of RAM; my machine just doesn't crash for no reason.
Damn! I really wanted to watch those vids.

Hey Paul.....good vids.
If I'm not mistaken, your roll cage was fab'd by Frey (sticker). Your suspension has a very good balance that fits you. What rear roll bar are you using?
By any chance, did you ever meet Abraham at Frey Racing when he worked there? He used to prep the pro series cars. He has a ITA at my disposal, but I haven't had the time to use it.
Damn I'm jealous.

Samps,
tell you what, I'll do up a .MOV file tonight of some of the footage.
JM,
No, actually my cage was fabbed by Alan Blaine and Joe Gervais, two open road racers in Joe's garage Alan's a certified welder, and we spent close to 4 months over weeknights and weekends on it. TIG welded, 8 points, NASCAR style door bars, designed to be as far away from my head as possible.
Never met Abraham.. Looks like Frey might be closing down soon from the rumors I'm hearing too..

wow, great driving, silkworm. i wonder what the 944's were thinking when you passed 'em on the outside. a question, though. what is that black crap flapping back and forth in the passenger's seat? it's not until like last 20-30 seconds of the video.

man, that track looks so wide, and has tons of run off. I run at Waterfordhills, and their track is about as wide as a 2 lane road, with almost no run off room.
I like the music, but it would be nice if it were a little quiter, so we can here the motor, breaks ,and tires.

3is.. The outside pass wasn't a big deal, he knew I was there and held his line inside.. It was the inside pass where I got into the really wet part of the track that they probably should have yelled at me for.. Live and learn..
Mark, yeah, all of the tracks here in California are wide.. I watched some vid from Waterfordhills and some tracks in Florida I think and I was amazed how you do any racing with those tiny little track surfaces..
Cory,
I'll let my father and brother know Yeah, they are Head-On Photos, they do photo work for most non-scca racing or open-track events here in Northern California.
