I'm bored.... heres just a little of my thoughts about going turbo....

Well, I've almost got everything together to start on the turbo addition... I just have to assemble the IC, coolant, and oil piping and put in the fuel pump, and the turbo will be ready to mount in.

I have mixed feelings here. It almost feels like I'm cheating myself!

My N/A is a point of pride for me- it's a fully loaded 90 GLX, with full stereo and interior, and now runs a tick or two off of a 14 flat in the 1/4..
I did ALLl the work myself, and have been able to share a lot of my hands-on results and experiences with other people.

Subjectively, I personally am more impressed with a 14 sec N/A than I am with a 13 sec turbo. It just doesn't have the same sort of wrenching respect.

Sure it's faster, but it's so much easier to just slap an intake, exhaust, and FCD on a TII, and be running 13's..
It's just much more common...
I have much more pride being able to smoke that random Mustang or TII, and being able to tell them after- "All motor baby!"

Well, I do have the added aspect of being able to say I fabricated my own turbo system for my N/A (Assuming it runs.. )
I always got in on the N/A vs TII arguments.. and still will, but now- I will have both viewpoints.

To sum up how I feel in an analogy.. I feel like I'm joining the dark side of the force! Muwhahah!!
Street ported 10 psi.... I can't WAIT untill I break my tranny!
I will start taking pics of the intall.... I just have to get a few more odds and ends.

Welcome to the dark side, collect your black cape at the door...

I have to drive my car every day, so wrenching respect is a little way down my priority list. For me, the big positive difference between a 14.0 NA and a 14.0 Turbo is that the turbo will always be easier and nicer to drive because it’s got so much more low-down torque. You don’t have to row through the gears to get decent acceleration unless you want to! Plus for those of us on a budget, ya can’t beat the hp/$!

Keep us posted on your progress.

Turbos are the way to the Dark Side

Look at it this way... Right now it sounds like you have a badass N/A. If you go turbo then you'd either be just another turbo car of you'd have to be blitzing some 9's to qualify as having a badass turbo...

That is the truth, but its all what you are looking for, you wanna go faster? get a power adder of some sort, you want to keep your respect of having a bad *** N/A?.. well.. of course you are going to have to stay N/A, I personally want speed just about over anything, well, other than handling, i could care less what other people think.

Very impressive bambam but I dont think youl be as happy with a bad *** N/A converted to a mediocore turbo then u would have been with a bad *** N/A and ANOTHER SEPERATE turbo if u know what I mean...I just bought a turbo and still modding my n/A to hell but my turbo wont just be 13s it should be low 12s when Im done...That the rought im taking. My N/A should also be 14 flat and 13s with Nitro. one guy got 12.8 with 100 shot in his N/A. His name was something like Rx7CRX or something.

I too am collecting parts for the addition of a turbo.
Bambam7 - are you going the same way as Aaron using the NA intake manifolds? I'm gonna use the t2 manifolds and TB. I've read that you just need to use the 6 port gasket with the lower manifold, or you could port it some. Either way I think this setup would be easier with less fabricating. No custom DP and you could use a t2 hood instead of the mandatory front mount.

Yep- peejay put it perfectly....kindof loose my status...

And yes- I'm adding a turbo to my 6port engine.
Basically the same setup as Aaron Cake... but with a lot of different details, such as a much bigger interooler, different fuel delivery, and oil/coolant setup.
I also saw that TII intake manifold info... Interesting, I'd like to see it with my own eyes first to see how close the mating is.
And why would you have to use a custom DP?
The turbo isn't being rotated, or misaligned at all, just moved over 2"... the whole exhaust system moved enough to accomodate that I'm sure!!

Anyone know which flows more?? The TII manifold or the 6 port one (with radiused sleeves of course).
I liked the idea of having a big front mount anyways... I need every once of detonation resistance I can get!

My engine is high-comp (a small prob for turbo), but it's been done up totally, with the upgraded bearings, balancing, and 3mm seals. Should give me a little more room to play with..

I have no idea what to be expecting in terms of power though.
A standard S5 turbo engine with just basic intake, full exhaust, and fuel, can be putting out 250 HP easily.
Add to that a street port (40 hp on a turbo)
That's 290.... then the added compression of the N/A rotors...
I don't know what the compression difference will give, but if you figure how damn SLOW a turbo engine is with no boost, it's at least 60 hp difference...

So 350 hp.... BUT that's assuming a sum of the parts, and NOT the actual result I'm sure. My 2 1/2" exhaust won't flow that near that much at all, neither will the stock turbo, not to mention the fact that I can't keep boost that high without timing very retarded, and without running 110 octane on my engine.
Only time will tell.
