Question Ignition questions

Ok, my NA S5 started to run rough. There is a lightweight "tink" sound coming from the header region. This tells me (although I could be wrong) that she's pinging. It's not a constant sound but it gets louder when I give it more gas. I have noticed a bit of lost power and such.

Checked timing - it's good.
Injectors were recently cleaned.

Found that one of the coil/igniters were starting to fail. So, here's where most of the questions come in. The Haynes book on my car says I should replace both of the igniters (I think they are the trailing ones - it's the ones that are completely separate). I can understand that this would have an effect on timing in some way but is there anything wrong with just replacing the one that's not up to spec any more?

Also, I am looking to get a performance replacement for the stock coil/igniters. I checked at "www.rx7.com" and they advertise the FC1000. It's out of stock. I haven't found many other replacements from other sites and most are also out of stock. Any suggestions on a set of replacement coil/igniters?

Wouldn't a set of higher-end igniters help prevent fouled spark plugs and other ignition issues that occur when running in the upper RPM band?
