hey as you guys might know i just bought a 2nd generation RX-7. It is having an idling problem. A friend of mine said it could possibly be the apex seal. I have no clue what that is. first of all i was wandering if anyone has experienced the same problem. if so how did you go about fixing it. and what are the symptoms of a blown apex seal. how much would it cost to get that fixed. could i possibly find some kind of gasket rebuid kit and how much that would cost. the car is kind of old and i sure none of the gaskets have been replace. or would i be better off just buying a new engine.

A compression check will tell the story on the internals.

Here is the deal on idleing.
The rotary engine has so little torque at idle that half of the stuff on top of the motor is for idle speed control. The BAC is the main controller of idle speed but it needs help with suddenly switching loads like headlights or AC or heater fan on high. These other accessories have signals to the ECU to open various vacuum bleed solenoids to help out. That is why the idle tune up is so complex.

Im having a similar problem with my 87 Turbo II.
When I first turn it on if I ever stop giving it gas it will shut off. After about 5 minutes of driving the problem goes away, but it makes driving a bit of work at first.
I left the car at home and took my old Accord to school, Ill look at it again this weekend, hopefully its nothing big

First thig check your TPS with a multimeter and set it if neccessary. Clean the BAC and use the idle screw to adjust the idle if really nessecary. Start replacing your vaccuum lines since they are probably old and broke/leaking.

thank you for your help you guys but you keep using abbreviations for everything. what exactly is a BAC and a TPS.
