an idle problem fix........(not obvious)

make a long story short...(not really , I guess)

had surging at idle at first, then car wouldn`t idle at all, had to stay on the gas to keep car running

checked the usual culprits ( TPS, BAC, connections, etc.,).

finally disconnected the BAC, upped the idle so it wouldn`t stall.

Noticed when car was in gear, clutch disengaged, rpms would drop by 200-300rpm; also when revving the engine, as the rpms dropped , at around 1200 rpm the engine run incredibly rough unless I took it out of gear.

traced the problem to a bad clutch switch. Replaced switch and no problems anymore.

Sure, been there, done that...

Remove the clutch switch totally, and the idle never drops below 1100RPM or so.&nbsp This happens when the piece-of-**** plastic stopper on the clutch pedal breaks and allows the switch to slip into the now vacant hole.&nbsp This is obvious when you hear a loud click under the dash everytime to lift off the clutch pedal.&nbsp Although not identical to your problem, it's pretty similar.

Sorry, dunno why this is so, but I guess the ECU keeps track of the clutch switch and somehow bumps up idle for some screwed up reason...

Well uh. My 86 will let me start the car with the clutch out all day. Maybe I should fix that switch.

Hey. My clutch pedal makes a tic sound everytime I depress it. Whats up with this? Can this cause a slipping clutch?
