Idle @ 1500RMP NO DROP and Interior FUSE constantly blows
Hi Everyone, I am ART from Canada BC
I am a Supra owner who bought RX7 1 week ago, I am excited about it for many reasons. I had 8 Supras but this is my first RX7.
I got the car from gentelmen who said it didn't strart (flooded :o>), got the car running after 2 days.
I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS (i did a search but didn't find anything closely related)
1. Next day after succesfull start IDLE won't drop below 1500RPM. if i shift to Drive (auto tranny) it drops to 800RPM but as soon as i press on gas in Netural it shoots to 1500RPM again
2. My interior light don't work, fuse is blown, it blows as soon as i put it in (blew 2 of them), blows with a key out of the car, can't find a problem, it's grounded somewhere but don't know where, checked the wiring diagram but still can't figure it out.
thankx to Everyone who is willing to help

i may be out of line...but which series supras did you have?..your electrical problem..with the light....when you replace the fuse..the door is open everytime? maybe check the actual light bulb..and see if there is some corrosion or problems there..but back to my original out of line statement...if you have 86 or above supra/s why would you be excited about an auto rx7? the actual rx7 is a great car to get excited about..but coming from the power of supras(im assuming they are 86-89) you are going to be sooooo let down with the power of an auto 7...had you got a 5 speed you would really love it...but an auto 7 is a terrible comparison to any supra..sorry for my opinion..but you will find its true..
as for thge idle problem...did you let the car warm up for awhile...when you start an rx7 it will idle high like what you said for about 5 minutes +or-...they have a different engine than the supra(obviously)..and the rotary is designed to warm up faster with higher rpms..for that 5 +or- minutes time..but normally once you drive it for a few minutes..the high idle rpms drop to around 750....even while in d with the car at a stop. im glad you got it cheap and also got it running..but usually if someone has an rx7 that wont start (like yours when you first got it) the owner tampers with an air adjust screw ontop of the fuel injection casing( most idiots think its an idle adjust screw..i was that idiot too) that screw is for air mixture and not the idle adjust..so maybe the guy could never get it started and tampered with that screw and eventually got it going temporarily...( it happens....and in the past ive done it)...but if not correctly positioned it can lead to engine failure..or can be the first signs of eventual engine failure...i think your best bet is to take it to a rotary specialist that can straighten out all the little things( more little things like that on the rotary than on a piston engine)..let someone look at it and get it all squared away....before the engine quits on ya

also most old rx7 s will have bad door switches..that just need to be cleaned up or jus unscrewed and screwed back in a few times to bring clean metal contacts to allow the light to actually work...you may find that the light actually works but that the fuse problem is in the idiot light cluster and its bad solder joints..and they need to be resoldered..it happened to me where the clock would go out and that would trigger the room fuse..which coincedentally made my ac blow hot air..it was all in the idiot light cluster..but my light would not work either...do a search on idiot light problems and resoldering it and all of its side effects..they are also called the warning lights..theyre the ones that the clock is in....goood luck and with time it will seem much simpler..once youve searched and researched the info

The door switches cannot cause a fuse to blow. Even if the wire is just shorted directly to ground, it will just keep the lights on. The interior fuse controls a lot of stuff. It looks like you'll be stuck going over the entire wiring harness. Look for areas the previous owner would have hacked.
As for the idle, 9 times out of 10 it's just a simple vacuum leak. Don't adjust ANYTHING until you have eliminated a vacuum leak as the cause. Another common cause of an exactly 1500 RPM idle is a stuck cold-start cam. Back of the throttle body....Grab a Haynes manual or the shop manual at http://www.fc3s.org to find out more info.

Yeah my DOOR is open all the time (light just stays on for no reason, i have disconnected the door harnesses 9to check if fuse still blows) but with no results, i suppose it's a switch, CAN I HAVE MORE INFO ON "idiot light cluster and its bad solder joints" i will serach too
I am still battling the IDLE problem, altough it's not as bad anymore, (adjusted the primery plates a little), will work on it after work will see how it goes.
thanks to everyone answered, more suggestions are welcomed.
ART
PS: I am excited about the car mostly because i never had RX7 before, i had 4 of 2nd Gen Supras and 4 of the 3gen Supras, actully right now i have '86 Rx7 and '88 Supra N/A auto, both red
, I took rx7 on the hightway yerstaday, and auto does suck, my Supra N/A auto is by far has more pick up and power, but Rx7 has a great handling and once it gets to 6000RPM on the third gear (auto) it's fun.

well basically if you do some simple searches or even a seperate thread...questioning the idiot light cluster and its weakness..and how people have resolved its vulnerabilities..you may get some feedback, but many of these guys will just laugh and not respond...as far as ive found out..the best way to get a response from the many experienced and very well informed guys on here..is to post pretending like you know more than them...then they will respond..if you just post a question...theyll pretend like theyve seen it 1000 times and are above your question...but if you seem threatening to them..with false info...they jump allover it...you will have manipulated them into biting...its just like fishing...the way that i found out about it..was to read every thread i could find in as many rx7 forums as i could locate...so i basically got alot of beer ...and my favorite smoke....and spent hours on end...weeks on end..then i took all the internet gave me...and i began comparing it to what the forums would give up....this is the easiest forum to get info..it has alot of proud people that will respond if you just pretend you know more than they do...they love to tell you your wrong...but at the end of the day you will get the info you really want..just try it,,,get 2 seperate names..and introduce 2 seperate questions...do 1 as a person who needs help...and do 1 as a person who thinks he knows more than the forum.....youll get more feedback..as the guy pretending to know more than anyone else...its pretty funny.....but its usually true...try it please.
