ideal oil pressure?
What is the ideal oil pressure (from the stock OP gauge)? After my 86 has warmed up and at idle its right above 0 and at WOT its right at 60. Is this good, normal, bad?

As I stated in the other thread...
Stop trying to guess the stock oil pressure gauge!
The senders are notorious for dying.
All it's going to tell you if your oil pressure is: GOOD / OK / OH **** I NEED A NEW MOTOR
Get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge.
Even the cheapie ones with the capillary tubing is under $50.

Before you do anything take your car to a shop and have a mechanical pressure test done. it is very inexpensive and will tell you if you need a sender, pump, or engine. It is very unlikely the gauge is malfunctioning. To answer your question at a warm idle you should have between 20 and 30 psi. WOT sould be between 60 and 70 psi. using a 40 weight oil.

I have an s4 n/a. at wide open throttle its at 60, just idle is low. I will deffinately get a mech. pressure test done. I'm running 5w30 right now, but I have a feeling that will change here in a bit...

I find oil pressure above 100psi tend to cause engines to smoke through the exhaust due to blow-by.
Others will argue otherwise.
There's no reason to run anything higher than the Racing Beat 80psi - 85psi "street" upgrade OPR on a daily driver.

my gauge has never been that high. what can cause it to be low? OMP going out? bad seals? bad lines? I haven't noticed it leaking at all. there is a big spot on my street where i park because i overfilled it once , but its hard to tell.

ya its not going to make much of a difference, 100 psi will lube just as well as 125. but its not going to hurt anything, i dont know of any rx7s that dont smoke a little lol. this was on a track car though

My gauge is done too, but it scares me sometimes because I bought the car like that with it not working. But I have driven it for a couple thousand miles now so I should be okay right. Just need to get new gauge.

misconceptions again, more is not always better. more pressure can cause more friction, heat, blowby, oil leaks and especially in turbos blown turbo seals.
100 is max i suggest for n/a engines and 65-70 for turbo engines at redline.
