Exclamation I wouldn't have beleived it if i hadn't done it. (A trick for your paint)

Well, I wouldnt have beleived it if I hadn't done it myself.

I just tried removing some crud from the paint on my car and used brake parts cleaner.

It evaporates instantly, and worked well.

But after that, I wanted to try a material that evaporated more slowly.

Mineral spirits was the material I had on hand.

I got a soft sponge, and began to apply a light coat of Mineral spirits in a hidden area of the car.

SHOCK! No paint came off, but a WHOLE LOT OF CRUD DID!

"Uhh.." , I said, "that paint was black, not its BLACKER and SMOOTH!"

You see I was (somehow) used to small little "things" that would be rough on my paint, and felt it was just the age stating to dull the smooth finish.

However, I just did my hood.

It took elbow grease, ( i might switch to a orbital buffer) but now the hood is LIKE GLASS!

(minus the physical defects in the paint)

The amount of brown CRUD that came out of my paint was AMAZING.

Did I say brown?

Why YES, brown... you know the color that White paint seems to fade to after about 3-5 years?!

(Although youd never know it unless you did a repaint)

So, I called over a freind, with a white car.

I tried it on the engine area.

W O W!!!!

W H I T E P A I N T I S R E A L L Y W H I T E!

Whew..

So, I want OTHERS to try this....

It seems to do a better job then a clay bar.

As you wipe the mineral spirits, notice that the dots in your paint start to streak.

Keep going!

No streaks??

Now BUFF IT OUT.

What do you see? I want to know!
So everyone that has the guts to try it, (AT YOUR OWN RISK), please post before and after pics!

Needless to say the Wax on your car will be gone, so...

I reccommend a good degreasing first with a Purple or citrus cleaner!

The use "Scratch Out" from "KIT" (AWESOME STUFF)

Then WAX IT ASAP!

Damn BIRDS!

Its too late for those kind of pics for me, so i want to see others' pictures.

One note of caution.... The nose of my car was painted with some sort of LATEX paint by the previous MORON that owned it. so that came off. (Good riddance)

I struck a deal with MACO to paint it again, $100.
Good. that'll put goot CAR paint on it.

Let me know guys/gals!

I agree

Dont do this more than once!

It worked LITERAL MIRACLES ...

Im thinking of calling the Bishop!

I did switch to a terrycloth pad & orbital buffer to apply the rest.

I allowed it evaporate while i continued over the car about 3 times with a spray bottle of mineral spirits, misting as i went.. then it started to evaporate and i went over the car twice more while the pad and the spirits dried.

The light oil left over lubricated.

Then I changed to a fluffy buffing pad and went over once more, this started to reveal the paint gloss.

Without switching pads, I then applied "Scratch Out" to the car.

I went over the car three times as the pad dried.

I applied fresh Scratch out as I went to new areas.

I then contiuned with medium pressure the whole time over the whole car buffing in the (now dried) scratch out again.

Its like a painted the car, and theres NO WAX ON IT YET!

Wonderful..
Pictures follow in moments.

Okay, pictures suck this time of night...
Maybe tomorrow!

This process removes foreign material, it doesnt repair physical damage..

Try Scratch Out.

My car is a black, factory paint, 1990 NA GXL 2+2..

So, if I do this and it messes up my paint, will you send me a $10K cheque so I may have my car repainted?

If I were you, I would be very careful about what you tell people...if they do this and kill their paint, it is entirely possible that it could then become your problem.

Aaron, Aaron, Aaron....

And here you are slapping a turbo on a N/A car...

How strange for YOU to have posted that warning.

If anyone here ever gets mad at anyone else because they were told by a forum member that doing XYZ would cause ABC, and it blew up thier mother, that person has noone to blame but him/herself.

Let the buyer beware....

Thats ALWAYS how you should take advice here.

Anyone that doesnt know that will be using the ATF trck to lower their car!

(A sugestion i made a week or so ago)

It has little to no effect on car paint.

Especially once dried and cured.

I thought the same thing until i researched mineral spirits and car paint.

The car looks AMAZING and theres not even any WAX on it yet!

Pictures tomorrow!

You're taking off oxidized clear coat.&nbsp You should learn about automotive paints and painting before making dangerous claims like this.

You want to do it right, use dishwashing detergent and a clay bar.&nbsp Get some Zaino polish - http://www.zainobros.com/

I'm a lazy ****!&nbsp Hell, I love what Zymol does, but that **** is a royal pain in the *** to put on and take off!&nbsp The Zaino lasts a lot longer and a lot easier to put on and take off.&nbsp Read the website - it's all written there. It's a lot cheaper too!

I think www.autopi-carport.com did a price comparison and cost was a wash between system. It is a matter of personal preference. Better zaino klaase blackfire and PROPER PREP than mineral spirits and Turtle Wax!!!!!

Lets be straight here.

Im not removing any clearcoat!

There is no clearcoat on these cars from the factory, its is a single stage paint with a phased-in final clear/paint composite coat.

I was NOT removing Oxidation.
Oxidation is oxidized paint.
The color I was removing was BROWN and a bit of RED colored material.

I looked at the pads about once every minute or two to ensure that I wasnt removing paint.

There were also physical SPOT (dots) on the car all over causing there to be a rough surface.

The dots would start to streak in the direction that i was wiping when i used the mineral spirits.

Keep in mind i used very little all over the car.

Now the paint is like GLASS.
No roughness.

I will now clay bar the hood and other areas that have more severly imbedded dirt and what looks to be overspray from somthing.

And before anyone does this i would test it on a spot that should be smooth and shiney but is clearly dirty and old.

Like a shock tower or the firewall.

The resulting finish is literally amazing.

Banzaitoyota:

If you are so knowledgeable as to criticize Sniper_X then why don't you enlighten all of us to this humerous joke?

What I am saying is:

If you really do find Sniper's suggestions so ignorant then please dispel this ignorance with some actual knowledge or experience to back it up.

Hint: providing us with a non-specific link only causes more confusion.

no one is making fun of him, It was posted as an example of the things some people do to their finishes. I would not recommend anyone put mineral spirits on their car!
