Exclamation I Think My Oil Metering Pump Has Failed.

I replaced my OMP Lines on my 88 GXL (mechanical) the other day. Ever since, my lines have remained virtually the same colour - CLEAR. I'm getting paranoid b'c the oil needed to go through the OMP Is vital to the engines life capacity! I haven't redlined It or anything like that until I figure out what the heck Is going on.

I had the pump swaped out with a used one from my mechanic. It was leaking from there. I had asked him why didn't you just replace the o - ring? He claimed that another seal, In the pump has failed. Now, I don't know If this has happened again or If my mechanics reply Is true? What do you think?

I was thinking of taking It out and giving It a good cleaning and re-assemble, but with a new o - ring. Also, on mechanical Oil Metering Pumps, are they a part that rarely fails?

I guess I shouldn't have to mention that the clearance of the rod Is their and It Is hooked up at both ends.

NO NO NO!!! they are supposed to be the color of the oil. If your engine is not getting oil, DO NOT DRIVE IT AT ALL. Run premix for extra insurance .

Here is mine with some AIR in the tube on the left. Notice the color of the part with OIL and the EMPTY part.

If you decide to go with premix (reccomended), here is my thread on it with reasons why HAILERS and RETed and other 'forum gurus' like premix. It should answer all your questions too

Yeah. My Oil Lines look exactly like that. A faint hint of brown, yet still look like white.

I thought at first that I may have tightened the bolts that attach the lines to the actual pump to tight which may have constricted the oil from getting past the lines. But that Is not It.

I am at the end of my rope. Also, I do not want to pay over $250 can for a new one. I neither want to go premix considering I had just gotten my Fuel Injectors and Oil Injectors cleaned. Anybody else?

You have 3 choices, the way I see it.

1. wire the OMP open, run the engine and watch for oil moving in th elines

2. Remove OMP lines, modify a new set of lines, and follow the FSM procedure on testing the OMP.

3. Put some premix in the tank, run the car until the oil gets a bit dirtier, and then you'll know for sure.

I'm not sure what you mean by step 3. To check to see if your oil gets dirtier. I mean, If I pore the pre-mix Into my gas tank, than my oil will no doubt be contaminated as well. Do you know how else the mechanical pump could fail?

Huh... You put premix in the tank to keep the engine healthy if you truly do have a dead OMP. Oil gets dark as it gets dirty. So it'll be easier to see in the OMP lines.

Two separate things.

Oops definetly my wrong. Sorry Sillworm. You are right. I know see your point!

When I replaced my OMP Lines I had changed my oil aswell. Although, not entirely clear, my lines have the slightest bit of tint in various parts of the lines.

I mean, If It In fact working (OMP), I'm not all that confident all that much oil circulates through It. I think that by disassembling It I may be able to better diagnose WTF Is going on! Any other suggestions prior to dissection.

Just so you know, when my buddy replaced his lines, he bought new ones from Mazdatrix. He installed them, and started the car...no oil flowed. So he called them and they told him that there isn't alot of oil that flows through them, and that it may be sometime before he saw any at the top on the actual injectors. I would run some premix until it gets there to be safe.

Your probably right Dave. As every day passes, the lines, at the very least, start to take on a slightly darker appearance. Who knows. Maybe my OMP does actually work. If It does, I am pretty surprised that very little oil is coming out.

Tomorrow I will purchase Valvoline's "Multi-use" 2 cycle oil that Is approved for Fuel Injected Engines (TC-W3 CERTIFIED). I will put In 16oz to a full tank. I will do this until my OMP Lines start browning or as Silkworm pointed out "until the oil gets a bit dirtier".

I may even just block off the OMP and nozzles next week end.
