I think I'm done crying now...
Okay, I woke up this morning to a glorious sound - the local speed shop
calling and telling me that my silicon vacuum hose had come in. I ran
down about 8:00AM and picked it up - 6 ft of 3.5mm, 6 ft of 8mm, and 3
ft of 12mm. Came home, and started working. I had done about 15 different mods all at once, the car's been down for two weeks now - the silicone hose was the last thing I needed.
So I get all my silicone hose on the car, fits like a champ and looks
cool to boot - blue hose with my blue intake manifold. I hook the
battery up, and stretch some pantyhose over the AFM (I don't have a cone
filter yet). I cross my fingers and start the car.
I have to note at this point that I've removed all of the hard emissions
line from the car, and rerouted the fuel line with what I thought was
high-quality 80PSI cloth-wrapped stuff. Like $5.00/foot, and I had to
wait a week to get it.
Anyway, I had forgotten to prime the fuel system, but it didn't matter -
the car started right up on the first try. Must have been some leftover
fuel in the injectors r something. All of the sudden, I start seeing
smoke, and remember that I had forgotten to put on my ACV block-off
plates!
OH ****!
I jump out of the car and pull up the hood again. By this time the ACV
"hole" is belching flame all over my fuel lines, which are rapidly
disappearing. I reached underneath the AC compressor and pulled the fuel
filter off, but I guess I wasn't fast enough...
My now-worthless TII burned to the ground right in front of my
apartment. TFD (Tallahasse Fire Dept) came pretty quickly, to their
credit, but it wasn't fast enough. There's no hose on the front of my
building (where the car is/was), and I don't own a fire extinguisher.
And I've got to make a payment on my car today. I'm really depressed,
guys. I don't think I'm going to work today...
Oh, and the hood came out fine - so if anyone wants a perfect, but
sooty, aluminium TII hood, drop me a line - I guess I've got one for
sale...

I am so sorry bro. Since you have payments on the car, then you're most likely under comprehensive insurance. Hopefully, everything turns out...I suppose the damage is incredibly severe, it sounds like it is. Are you going to part it out or send it to the junkyard?

Why don't you have a fire extinguisher in your garage if you are working on your car?
Anyone that works on cars or cooks in their kitchen should have a fire extinguisher handy.

Ahhhh! Thats SO horrible! I have been toying with buying a fire extinguisher lately, and I believe I'll go down and pick one up tonight. With all of the pulsation dampeners failing and stuff like this. I'd rather have to clean under the hood rather than this. Wow. Are there any salvagable parts?(Besides the hood)
I'd like to get my hands on that turbo and manifold...since mine has a small crack in it.

Man, that sucks. Anything that we can do to help, let us know. I'll keep my eyes pealed for a cheap TII for ya online. I'm glad that you are ok, though.

I am very glad that I have a fire extinguisher and a fuel cut switch. Let this be a lesson to you all. The two cost like $20, and took a total of 30 minutes to install both.

Clue #3: $5.00/foot for your average, cloth-wrapped fuel hose? It'd
better have a pretty high gold content! Not to mention having to wait a
week for it?

As Dale pointed out, it takes a good bit of cranking to get an FI motor
started after it's been drained of fuel, and not primed. Also as our two
best students pointed out, the car won't run with a gaping hole in the
side of the intake manifold - too big of a vacuum leak...

This paragraph is my favorite! Not only would no fire ever come out of
the ACV ports in the intake manifold, it's not even anywhere near the
fuel lines! :-D Fuel line is also fire-resistant, and wouldn't
"disappear" when exposed to fire. Plus, as Steve pointed out, I wouldn't
*leave the key in the ignition* and try to pull the fuel filter out
(???) to stop the fuel flow, to say nothing of the fact that it's not
accessable from "underneath the AC compressor".

While I didn't expect anyone to be able to catch this, Tallahassee
ordinances mandate that all commercially-operated building are required
to have a fire extinguisher available at all times.
