I ran carb cleaner but no smoke?!

This is my 2nd time doing this....
i ran carb cleaner thro a vaccum leak behind the UIM and i rev the engin to 3k and i didnot notice any somke coming out of the exahaust. Is this normal??
my first time, i did not know which vaccum line to use so my friend sprayed the carb cleaner after removing the air cone straight, and that produced some smoke!

were you using carb cleaner to find the vacuum leak? If so its a pretty good method, not always going to smoke though..you could always use a vacuum gauge if you arent sure...then theres always remove the uim and look for a leaky spot..

never heard of looking for smoke, but ussualy one checks that way by listening to rpms. if you hear your rpm's jump, then your in the right location

sounds like he's trying to clean the inards of the motor by running it through a vacum line. If thats right then I dont think carb cleaner will make it smoke, seafoam on the other hand will kill bugs in the neighbors yard.

Carb cleaner burns ALOT cleaner the oil, hence your lack of smoke.
