i just bought a rex...
hey guys, tonight i went to an rx-7 meet at the varsity in downtown atlanta. nice to see those pretty fd's there, and all the other 7's. well, someone had a 1986 rx-7 that had over heating problems and he was getting rid of it. i decided to buy it for 70 dollars... thats right, 70 bucks. so i will now have a 13b 86' na rx-7. if the motor is blown, i will be buying a v8 motor for it and doing that conversion. if the motor runs, ill drive it for a daily driver. its a piece of **** exterior and interior wise, but i dont really care. if i cant get the car running, or get the funds to do the swap, ill part it out. i hope that ill enjoy fixing this car up. it seems like it will be a fun project. ill post pics of it in all its crappiness. i think i might do a spray paint-paint job on it hehe, anything is better than what it is now...

its probally a blown coolant seal and youll spend twice as much money doing a V8 conversion (over 5 grand) then getting a rebuilt motor put in. (1500). Those prices are without labor. Peronally i think you should either have faith in a 13b or leave the rx7 alone. If you want a v8 then go find another car to swap it into. -Gabe

Thats a great deal! You could easily get $500 for parts alone.
V8 conversions are very expensive. My advice would be drive it till it dies and maybe get a rebuilt engine for $800 and have a nice running car. Or you could just part it out because the way you describes it sounds rough. no point in spending lots on the motor if the body is a total pile
As for the body, I wouldnt go as low as spraypaint. I would consider getting a half-asses maaco job, but not spray paint.

Check out the cooling system.............. check the thermostast, check for leaks, do the bubble test, just cause it over heats dosen't mean a seal is shot, (but it dosen't rule it out either)
