i did some research, and paid attention to the OP's description of the car he wanted to race, and found this posting!!
http://www.vetteweb.com/features/041...ort/index.html
if this is the car you are talking about you might still have a chance!!! the owner talks about running 14.2's in the quarter!!! that is alot more attainable for an n/a.

If it's a Gran Sport Vette, good luck, they were at least 405hp from the Factory, I believe the same engine as the ZR-1? Not to mention probably the same or more in torque, which is what gets you off the line. Which is where the race is usually won or lost. I say forget it, whether you get a turbo or not, unless you have 10-20k to throw at a PROFESSIONAL shop to build it, you won't make an RX-7 out-drag the Vette.

Yea man, I wouldn't bother. As much as I like seeing V8 guys get eaten alive by a 1.3 liter, you just aren't going to do it with a N/A unless you're running a 3 or 4 rotor, which isn't cheap at all. The only fast N/A I've seen yet was Crispeed's RX-3, but that was a FULLY built peripherial port 13B running a Haltech and ITB's, not to mention it's COMPLETELY stripped and is a pure 1/4 track car. The build the car that he did, expect to pay out your ***. A PP motor takes much time and patience to build. If you want to beat him for much much cheaper, you'll be wanting to build a 13BT. If you're that serious about doing it with a N/A, expect to throw down at least 10k.

nope not 405hp just 330hp!!! and the grand sport package was meant for the road courses. after reading about the grand sport in the article i posted a few postings ago i realize that the owner of this car that the OP wants to race either does not realize what he has or has no intention of ever giving up his car. my vote is for the latter. if you still want to race this guy do it for the fun of it not for the car and also do it on a track.

20b
well if there was going to be turbos used and you had some money then you could put a 20B 3-Rotor motor in it with some good tuning w/ other mods you would be set but the 20B would cost you about $4000+ fresh in from japan thats what me and me buddy are doing to my RX7...... hell if he dont give you anything, he will give you respect.....to me respect is all i need

Why the hell are so many people saying race him on a road course? Corvettes are also very sweet handling cars. Match that with twice the horse power, alot more of probably better tires, and most likely much less mileage on the suspention, I believe youd get you *** handed to you no matter what you do (within the limitations of staying NA and being realistic). Why dont you slowly mod you car as you go and just drive it. My $.02

Yes, I find it funny that there are guys here yelling "take it to the twisties y0". Ever looked under a corvette wheel well? The front wheels are about 11" wide, and the rears are about 13. Your FC? 8's and 9's are as big as most go, and the car comes with 6's or 7's depending on model. Come on now, guys.

The reason you didn't get any results is because you have to learn how to search. First of all, the search doesn't recognize two or three letter words, so don't even bother putting them in. Also, even if it did, searching "N/A FC 12.0 in 1/4" won't give anything back unless someone posted that exact sentence. Try searching for more general phrases. I would try power, horsepower, horse power, more power, quarter mile, etc. Then you have to search through every thread that comes up and look for an answer. Also, you can check the stickies and archives to find some really useul info. This forum has been around for a while, so if you have a question, there is a good chanced that it has been asked and answered before. So next time, before posting a new thread, make sure you do a thorough search and also check the archives/stickies. You'll get your answer faster and also save you and everyone else time. Good luck!

my $.02. 1. challenge him to a road course race
challenge him to a race on a mountain pass. get yourself some nice suspensions, tires and you'll win for sure.
you'll be VERY hard pressed to find an N/A FC beat a vette on anything other than an AUTO-X track.
Also, yes, 'vettes cost more than FC\s stock for stock, but not by a whole lot, given the same year. Also, consider that most FCs need a LOT of work to be "right"...I have around 16,500 in my FC as it sits and one of my buddies just bought a 97 6 speed vette for the same amount. We are on about equal footing as for performance, but I have a LOT of time in building the FC to get it where it is now. Most of the money went into looks and maintenance, not performance, because I dont want to drive a fast rickety unreliable bucket around any more than I want to drive a slow one.

run a sneaky pete nitrous shot (i read the opening staement too so stfu) but unless he is going to inspect your car top to bottom then you can hide everything.
but im with kevin give it up
i had beat one corvette before my old motor popped and it was a c5. i had good mods and 10psi but i didnt walk him maybe a car and a half but he wouldve caught me at higher mph

You Asked The Wrong Question!
Why would you battle the Corvette on its ground? The guy didn't specify what kind of race. Fight him where the RX-7 is strong. The rotary makes poor low end torque, it pollutes like crazy and has lousy gas mileage. What makes the rotary and the 7 spectacular is the shape of the engine. It allows the weight of the engine to be mounted low in the car. This cannot be done with a V engine because there is weight in the heads etc. which must be mounted high. So with the rotary you have a car that sticks to the road without enormous wheels and tires and without enormous brakes. The low unsprung weight makes the car handle even better.
So here's what you do: Tune your car. Make sure your 5 and 6 ports a working. Make sure the suspension is sound. Learn to drive your car. Driving a 7 is different from driving a Camaro. Then take Corvette boy out on the windiest road you can find and drop him like a bad habit. I have a stock 89 convertible (except for the K&M filter) and a C-4 Corvette struggles to keep up on the curves. This is partly because the Vette is heavy (you know the whole physics momentum thing). It's partly because Corvette owners depend on the cars to make up for their lack of driving skill. (A gross generalization, I know, I owned a Vette in the 80s.) a coupe is lighter and has an even greater advantage.
Remember, you bought a sports car, not a Grand Touring Car. Enjoythe 7 for what it is.

AND - strip all possible weight - as in pure race prep but with no cage.
I'm talkin' one race seat, no interior panels or carpet or dash, no accessories, no lights, no glass (acrylic sides), aluminum panels in place of the hood & sunroof & hatch, small fuel cell, etc.
Oh - and put your *** on a diet!

Yeah. If I were the OP, I would just admit to myself it isn't happening and go on. What makes you think that if he is such a jerk and bashing your car so bad(as you claim), that he would keep his word and give you the car if(and that is a big, probably never going to happen if) you actually beat his vette? Face it, RX-7 are fun because they are light and entertaining to drive. They are not world-beaters. You can go as fast as you can afford as the old saying goes. Want to beat him on the cheap? Drag Race=Motorcycle. Auto-X= Miata.
