I hope someone can help me with this....
got my engine rebuilt this past summer and the idle was a little rough and I was told that was normal. But it has been almost a year and It is still idling rough. It could be a different problem, could have been the rebuild at first and now its something else. The idle is fine at startup, nice and high as it was set for the rebuild but then it drops down after it cools off but its not a clean drop. It goes dangerously close to stalling then comes back up and then too low again repeatedly. My acceleration is fine but the idle when stopped worries me. I am hearing some high pitched squeeling (NOT THE BELTS) that goes up and down in pitch and loudness with the idle, I was thinking it was some sort of vacume leak that may or may not be realted to the idle. Also I never readjusted the idle after the rebuild because i wanted to wait till it got more even. Could the high idle setting be contributing?
PLEASE please please give me some ideas I dont have a clue as to what is going on. I cant pin point the noise and the idle is a bitch. Also sean you told me that when I turn my steering whell I am putting weight on the engine because something was broken cant remember the name though.
HELP!

Get some WD-40 and when the car has been running for 5 minutes, so the idle dropped, spray around the vacuum lines. If the idle goes up you have found a leak. Hit as many lines as you can because vacuum leaks can be a beyotch. Also you can test and set the TPS, check the electrical grounds, coils, wires, plugs.
I have no idea what the steering problem is because I don't quite understand what you are talking about.

1.3L is not that small
do what cosmo said and if you cannot find a vac leak then you might adjust the Throttle stop bolt... this is a bolt that stops the throttle plates so you have an idle at xx rpms... its a quick fix but when you fix whatever it is unless that is it you will idle high now and have to return it to its original place, the stop screw is on the firewall side of the TB where the plastic elbow is... take a 12 socket wrench and loosen up that bolt right there and then twist the bell looking device to increase the idle.... good luck with that

btw have the car running so you can walk around to your guages and see what speed its idling at... i had to do this to mine cause mine did EXACTLY what yours was doing and this was the main fault (along with the AFM)... reason being i did the TB mod and ported the TB
