I have a very bad water leak that I need help pinning down.

The car started using water about a month ago and ive tried to figure out where it was going. The car sometimes smokes white when its cold in the mornings so Ive been thinking that my coolant seals might have bit the dust...but i havent tried Ice's tip (cranking the engine with the EGI fuse removed and the filler cap off)yet to check that. Im kinda worried about that...lol. The car doesnt smoke any other time though. Ive checked the coolant line under the throttle body and its not leaking. This afternoon I got under the car to see if I could find the leak again. I found that water was coming from somewhere towards the top and rear of the engine around the intake manifold. Is that a common leak position? I thought at first the water was leaking down from the hose I just mentioned but it dosent seem like it. Anyone have any similar problem? I could use any advice yall can throw my way. Thanks alot.

You also have a line that runs from your BAC to the rear of the water pump housing. It could also be one of the o-rings between the lim and the block.

What's up man?

Holy ****!! I forgot about the o rings... I bet thats it. The water is leaking from the top of the LIM somewhere as far as I can tell. That might be it. The bac line is fine dude. The water is all at the back. Im doing good man...just workin. My little girls B-Day party is this Sat. so im lookin foward to that. How bout you? Whats new?

Check the hose that runs from the thermowax thingy at the back of the throttle body down to the top of a housing under the UIM. The connection under the UIM is difficult, if not impossible, to see without removing the TB/DC/UIM combo. However, try using a flashlight and a mirror at the rear, under the TB/UIM.

If water leaked into the LIM it might have trashed the LIM gasket too. Will lead to a serious vacuum leak in the future

^Now that you say that...I sprayed the back of the engine down yesterday with some degreaser so I could try and see where the water was coming from and when I hosed the degreaser off the engine idle picked up a bit. That sounds like the IM might be leaking somewhere doesnt it? Ill try the mirror thing tomorrow. Ive looked with a flashlight but it didnt seem like it was leaking.

On a side note...how will a leaky LIM gasket effect performance?
Noticeable drop in power? I know my mustang had a leak one time and it was a dog until I replaced it.

yes it will kill performance..... after you fix the leak get a bottle of throttle body cleaner get the car started and idling then spray around the LIM gasket...if the rpms raise then you have a leak.

the line under the UIM is pretty hard to get to so i suggest pulling the UIM/TB its not too hard to do and you can check all youre fuel lines and PD while youre at it

The filler cap on the neck on the water pump housing. LIM=Lower Intake Manifold.

Do you have TII? It may be the LIM o-rings like some have said.

I am doing good here in Arizona! School, work, getting things together for my new motor, you know the usual stuff.

Mod the tb while you have it off and get rid of that pain in the *** coolant line. Just my 0.02

Get rid of it? Just cap it off...or what? Never heard of removing it before, but had been considering doing the TB mod? Glad everything is going good man.

You can get by doing the tb mod. Then taking the coolant lines off of the BAC. You will have to cap the coolant ports for the bac(jb weld, liquid steel...) After that you can run a new coolant line from the rear iron to the back of the water pump housing( the port that feeds the BAC. It is really easy to do. Let me know if you have any questions. If you want to keep the car running while you port and mod the tb I have a spare one that I can sell you, or if you want me too I can do the tb mod, port it, and sell it to you that way. Just let me know.

What type of hose did you use and where did ya buy it from? Also, wouldnt this just bypass the bac? I mean the hose would still be connected in the hard to get to spot on the rear iron...or am missing something? How long does it take to do the TB mod?
