I Have $2,000 What What Would You Do
Right Now I Am Deployed To Kuwait. And I Will Be Coming Home For 2 Weeks Of Leave In May. I Have $2,000 To Spend And I Want To Enjoy Riding In My Rx'7 When I Get Back. It Is A Totaly Stock 1987 Mazda Rx-7 non turbo Good Condition. I Was Going To Have A Full Apexi Exaust From The Motor Back Put On For $850. Bonez Intake For $130 Oh And I Need To Have My Rear Differential Bushings Replaced. Which Will Cost A Bit Plus A Full Diagnostic And Compression Test. Keep In Mind I Would Do The Stuff Myself But I Am In Kuwait Any Suggestions On Going A Deff Way To Pull More Horses Without Sacrificing Motor Life. Oh I Am New On The Site By The Way Still Trying To Figure This Stuff Out.

im taking an engine from a junkyard for $150 or less and rebuilding and porting it, then experiment with intake design and porting. I also plan to go with a full megasquirt.
I would forget about the intake and make your own true CAI and have a muffler shop make custom exhaust, it would probably be cheaper. Also think about removing the power steering and AC (if equiped), and emissions (if no testing)

well, removing power steering may add a bit but im not too sure my butt dyno isnt too accurate. It does however add a better feel, it just takes getting used to. I dont have much muscle and i can steer fine, just the only problems are city driving while trying to drink a pop, and parking, i would definately say it is an aquired taste, i had to drive without it because the line burst from unseen flame damage and I decided i liked it

OK, so you obviously don't have alot of time. And funds are limited to 2k. I would make sure the motor was healthy first. If it has pretty good compression, start modding. If the compression is no good, or any other internal issues are found through your diagnosis, send the motor to someone to get built, and ported maybe, if funds permit. No point in building a house on sand.

RB header, test pipe, and a corksport powerback, A custom CAI made out of a prelude ebay intake (a personal favorite), lightweight flywheel, and underdrive pully kit, remove PS and AC, Full Major 90K tune up, redline fluid in the drive train, MT90 in the tranny, shockproof in the diff, koyo aluminum radiator, new tires, RB springs with tokico red 5ways... should beable to knock that **** out in a few days. you wont be unsatisfied.

A good port (like Kahren's) can add 25-50HP. Stock cars usually are at 127HP, his cars dyno at 190+. So a streetport would be the best choice for horsepower AND reliability (since you'll starting with a brand new engine).

Buy a quieter exhaust or do something other then a "test pipe". Otherwise you wouldn't be able to drive the car without looking for cops.

One streetport to one builder is extreme, to another its small. So MILD doesn't really make sense, does it?

In my opinion for 2k with only OFF the shelf parts (assuming this person doesn't want to go custom).
Mariah Cold Air Kit $300 or so, I know its expensive but its for someone that doesn't want to cut anything. (http://www.mariahmotorsports.com)
RB Header and presilencer (Or Bonez cat, depending on emissions) $400-450 right there. http://www.racingbeat.com
Borla Cat-back: $400 http://www.ebay.com
SAFC: $299 http://www.rx7store.net
And then put the rest towards maintence and such.

BIG Deal,
Here a suggestion: Put the money in the bank and don't blow it. I know you are probably a young soldier but the money you put away while you are young will come in very handy in your future and blowing it on a car is a waste. Now, if you already have a fairly substantial amount of money in savings and are maxing out your military Thrift Savings Plan, then go ahead and blow the money. As a former commander, I've had to slam too many Joes for bouncing checks, bankruptcy, not making payments on time, etc.etc.. If you have any debt at all, pay those off first before you treat yourself with some new toys for your car.

He would go buy a turbo if he wanted too, but you seem to forget about fees, possible issues with a new car, and the fact that maybe a nice TII in his area may be non-existent.
Its his choice what car he wants to modify, not yours. Some people maybe aren't too partial to giving up a car with no issues for one with unknown problems?
