well if im new to the rx7 world but i just bought my car its a 90 GTU and it was running and i only paid 600$ for it. be nice if i could find out how many GTU's they made cuz if what i have is rare id be very happy anyone have the numbers? and for the car you want to buy id look into buying it if its motor is complete body is decent and i could get a good rebuild done to it. to bad about the wheels but you can always get them later. hows the interior look in it thats a big thing too.

The only thing special about the GTUs is the 4.30 rear end with limited slip and a slightly different 5th gear ratio, instead of the 4.10 rear that came on the rest of the s5 with a stick, and I guess the low production numbers.

That's not true. The GTUs's also came with no sunroof and (from the Yamaguchi book) was equipped with RPM-sensing power-steering as opposed to speed-sensing... Then again, I've also heard other s5's had the RPM-sensing PS, but I've never really cared to look into it--that's just from the "RX-7 book".
Either way, they're still pretty damn cool. ![bgth](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/biggthumpup.gif)

Well splitting hairs is fun, 22 hp difference (s5 n/a /\ S4 T2) but due to the difference in the rearend ratio, the GTUs would hit 60mph in the same 7.7 seconds (or 8.6 according to R&T) as the 87-88 Turbo 2 models... ref. (color sportscar history, motorbooks international)
So the car was "as fast" as a S4 turbo but in N/A trim.... I agree my statement was incorrect, but I maintain the car is basically a turbo without the turbo....

^^^ Please post facts, not just NO.. I have several published books that claim the same (cited them for your pleasure)
Go to MazdaUSA and do a VIN check.. It claims GXL...
SEVERAL of my titles from the state have had the MODEL/trim level on them not just the COupe, conv, turbo..
ANyhoo, unless I work out something for much less then I thought, then this car is a no go..

Well I have done my fair share of charity work on these cars, but I have it down to a science as far as not loosing money. I only buy a sure thing, and know what it takes to get them back on the road. The biggest problem is the market changes so rapidly on these cars.. One month they sell the day they go up, sometimes you ahve to sit on them for a couple months until the right buyer comes along....

Well, Trevor, if you don't buy it before New Years Day, you'll miss out. I found it while I was with the family.
If I wasn't in Chicago right now, it would already be at my house.
You can't use the VIN to determine GTUs status, it all in the tire size code on the VIN plate. GTUs' were the only 16" wheel NA. Makes it easy.

THe guy claimed GTUs, I looked at it, it is not, it has a sunroof, and all GXL trim. He went inside the house and got online to verify satus, claiming that MAzdaUSA vin check pulled it as a GXL. Just going on what he said. He has 2 other rx-7s...
