I Finally Dynoed My Car!!!
Well to start off....I have a 90 GTU with cone intake, Full exhaust (racing beat downpipe/cat replacement and presilencer, N1 dual catback exhausts). Peak horsepower was 140 at 7000 and 117.8 @4800. I will post the dyno sheet soon so everyone can critique it, use it, whatever they want with it. Anyways does 140 to the wheels sound about right for the amount of mods I have?

Well, that's OK I guess.
Torque seems a little low.
Are you running headers?
People are always too optimistic as to what their 7's can dyno.
Well, even though that may not seem like much power, it's spread right up to 8000 rpms, in a (sortof) light car, with a manual tranny. Not too bad.
Do you have the A/F ratio sheet?? I'd bet it's running pretty rich with that exhaust and intake.
An S-AFC could net you another 10 hp easy.

sounds low to me...RETed (unless he was confused as to my mods) had one told me to expect around 160 to the wheels on my '88 NA with the following:
-Intake
-dual dunk w/ 2.5 inch downpipe no cats
-TB mod w/ wired 6 ports no airpump
-UR pulley and RB aluminum flywheel & centerforce DF
Is 160 RWHP WAY optimistic with these mods or are rx7powers a little low...I'm going to dyno the car sometime in september I think bc this winter = turbo transplant and I'd like some before/after.

No I don't have an A/F sheet, in fact I don't think they hooked any A/F things up to my car. No I don't have headers either. I am saving up for an S-AFC so I can squeeze a little more power outta the car. Thanx

Rarest RX
Seems we have the same exact mods except for brand differences in intake and exhaust and we put about the same power at the same rpms. Only difference is my car has 125,000 miles.

Yo,
Yeah, I'm stoked I've got another 65K worth of trouble free motoring ahead of me...at the same, consistant power levels. *grin*
Gotta love those NA rotaries.

140rwhp is just about right. Tons of people can say its low...but when they dyno their cars, they will be in for one heck of a shock. I just think its great that someone other than me, (And a handfull of others on this 2nd gen board) spent the money to actually dyno there n/a car.
All in all, i think 140 is ok. It shows your 6 ports are open, and your vdi is working too. I do however think there is a couple more hp to be squeezed from it by porting the intake manifolds, and getting some pineapple sleeves.
The first time on the dyno, my car with every mod for a n/a known to man only put down 150rwhp.....by lowering the fuel pressure, we picked up anouther 10rhwp...to 160.
Don't worry about what other people say.....just have fun driving your car. later, CJ

Yo,
Yeah, I was a little suprised when the dude told me "140" when I was on the rollers. I had delusions of 155-165. I'm glad that seems to be a normal number. 140 doesn't seem like a lot, but it sure moves my car around quick enough. *grin*

umm.... considering you have 125k miles, 140 seems about right if your engine is getting tired.
A NEW engine back in 1990 bone stock would probably put out 140-145 RWHP. Now considering all your engine's been through, that number is now 120. +20RWHP from you mods and BINGO! 140 RWHP. I bet if you got a rebuild, you'd be seeing 165-170...

the series 5 I heard in new healthy condition will make 125rwhp at MOST. NOT 140 lol. 160flywheel that 35hp difference. So 140 is 175 flywheel hp. Call RX-7.com and ask them what a 7 dynos in perfect condition. They will say around 125 and 115 for the early series. Thiers not much of a diff. They say like 10 hp is the diff from what they see between the series.
You guys think 170-75 is low but its like a 15-25 flywheel hp difference with just intake and exaust. Try doing that on a B16 160hp engine. They gain like 5rwhp or somehting. Pretty gay hole. And if you port the man and get sleeves and S-AFC should yield like 13rwhp wich will bring any of you up to 155-165 rwp. Just keep working on it.

those numbers look about right, they look good . keep in mind that RWHP is different than flywheel hp. it's about 85%, considering there is a 15% or so loss for a RWD car. that's a little trick I call "math"

Hey I have dyno graph of my last run.
First run was 141rwp with no header. I had alot of manifold porting , sleeves , custom int , pulley , fan exc but after I put on headers-presilencer and tuned the S-AFC I got 154.4 rwp stock ports. Then I upped the S-AFC settings even more and got around 158 rwp stock timing and before the ported TB and the other 100lbs weight reduction and new clutch and light flywheel. So hopefully I will be 165rwp the next time I stop. If I do it will be time for a turbo.

a series 5 helty car shoudl put out about/exactly 128 hp. here is the dyno to prove that http://12.243.159.121/cars/dyno%20fi...ak%20stock.jpg
that number is perfectly matched withteh 20% drivetrain loss btw.
then that same car was dynoed 80k miles later with a total of 160k miles onteh clock with racign beat y pipe and mufflers. and bonez downpipe and highflo cat. and a k&n airfilter. and dynoed 143.1 here is teh dyno for that http://12.243.159.121/cars/dyno%20fi...ck,highflo.jpg
this is my friends car btw and ive seen it through all of this.
NOTE: he does not have a midpipe its a high flo cat.
without a cat u shoudl see somewhere around another 10rwhp.
i dynoed my car with him the time he put out 143.1
my car a S5 NA as well had same intake, racign beat DP, MP, y pipe and mufflers. so the only diffrence between my car and his were highflow cat and no cat. and i put out SAME HP here is the dyno sheet. http://12.243.159.121/cars/dyno%20fi...ullexhaust.JPG
now after all this i knew somethign wasnt right, and u can see it on teh curve as well. i only posted one of my runs but the other runs i had that day my curve always looked noticebly diffrent after takign my intake manifolds appart and the 6 port i later foudn out that only one of the 6 ports was berely working and the other was completely stuck closed. that was due to carbon. and my vdi also was no functioning right. i tested when the vdi and the 6 port got their "boost" in the hoses to open them and the 6 port was 2800 rpm and the vdi was at 5300 at all times. but on teh dyno it showes that my vdi opened anywhere from 5300 -6500 rpm. so that was not workign properly either.
i took everythign appart cleaned it and inspected everythign also sticking in teh pineapple 6 port valve sleeves. after puttign everythin back together car felt much more solid and the power band was noticebly better throghout.
i havent dynoed the car since , i am in teh process of rebuilding the engine due to oil and water seal problems but is whole diffrent story
NOTE: i dynoed same or very close hp as my friend while my car was runnign like **** but i had no cat
here is a comparacent betweeen the two http://12.243.159.121/cars/dyno%20fi...0dyno_comp.JPG
the guy at teh dyno for some reson matched one of my lower hp runs to my friends dyno. if u notice i get less low end due to teh fact that i have no cat.
enjoy
