Why does that hurt below the belt? You know there is nothin there!!! j/k man. I do promise to at least test drive a TII before I decide. Part of the plan is I want to do a TII swap and be just like my hero SonicRat. He's so dreamy......

You are such a post *****. What exactly are you planning on doing with the car, other than swervy curves and drifting practice, what are you looking for? Do you want a baby smooth powerband that gets you going about as fast as a dodge caravan, or a odd powerband that sends you flying?

Drifting mianly. I had plenty of power for me in the setup I was running. I think that turbo is great for a straight line, but unnecessary for drifting. Like I said, n/a for now, TII swap when I got a better job to support the turbo.

Well, considering you're a broke college student, and you need a good daily driver, AND you're afraid of a little boost, you should go with what you keep on defending, the NA. Sure, you'll be slower than me, but that doesn't mean I'll hate you You live in texas, there should be a whole massload of rx7's within reach!

if at all possible, drive one, its seriously the only way you'll know.
in my personal experiences, my friends 86 GXL was FAR easier to control when breaking traction in any form.
I say, keep your NA, buy a TII for now so you can drive something, and if you feel like it put the money back into your NA

Rico, PM Blue Devil 7 and ask him. His car is a '90 GTU N/A and, my god, that thing is amazing! Not only will it just eat corners, but the power, while maybe not as much as a forced induction car, is pretty phenomenal too. It has a redone intake, full exhaust, suspension and ported engine and it's about all I would want. Mine's a '91 N/A and I'm very comfortable with it and don't really have any burning desire to go turbo.

Me? Yes. The FD I rode in had M2 airbox, M2 FMIC, 3mm seals, rebuilt w/ sp, and a Apex Commander PC. He said it was about 315-325hp at the wheels. That thing was NUTS. I will be getting about $2k for my wrecked car, and after the loan comes (hopefully $4k-$5k) I may just get a S5 TII here in the next few months.

Boost and I are very close. *hugs his turbo* I have ridden in several N/As and I wouldn't be crying if I owned one of them as well...but I have to have at lease one force fed car in the bunch.

Turbo lag is a moot point, if it lags you were in the wrong gear, period. On a TII with a stock turbo and full exhaust there will be little to no lag anywhere in the powerband anyway (remember Teds dyno in comparison to the SC'ed NA?). The only problems you will have in a corner is if the boost hits hard (as it does with a stock turbo), but thats easy, the gas pedal is not binary in operation, just don't put the loud pedal all the way down, instant boost curve control!
What you need to look at realistically is if you can afford a turbo or not. I will tell you this, I had a 1990 TII when I was in Highschool and had a crappy job and I am still paying the debt I got into with it. The NA is a much better daily driver than the TII, infact I would say I would NEVER daily drive another turbo RX7. Things you don't think about like gas and your insurance going up will hit you hard in the wallet if you aren't careful.
"Fast" is different to everyone, to me a low 11sec DSM was starting to feel slow, a 500rwhp blown Cobra didn't feel all that great. The only thing I could say I have been in latley that felt FAST was a friends single turbo Mk4 Supra.
It basically comes down to what you want. I had to make this descision when I sold my Talon, I had quite a few options running around in my head: C5, FD, FC, 93 Supra, Mustang of some sort ect. To me, fun to drive, was #1 (because the DSM was BORING). I could only afford and Automatic Supra and it would have taken a few extra mos to get, FD's look awesome but its built worse than my girlfriends Huyndai interior wise and the prices are going through the roof, a slightly used C5 allowed me to get a car loan, but the insurance for a 20y/o was outrageous and I didn't have a place to keep the car inside. Then it occured to me, this wasn't going to be my primary car, and i was a hobby so I didn't want to spend 20g's+ on a "fun" car. The FC was a logical descion (relitivly cheap 5600 for mine), and with a big TO4, FMIC and a little work it will make pretty similar power to a single turbo FD and come in cost wise under the cost of an FD.
Just think everything through, don't buy a TII then have to watch it fall apart or go into debt because you can't afford to keep it up. Also with a high milage modified TII (90k+) PLAN on putting an motor in it, remember it's not if but when.
