Unhappy Not so cool anymore

Yo, I don't feel so hot about it anymore. I don't know, I guess I really didn't think about it when I did it. I was just hopin' to save dough. And now it's not so glamorous. But you guys can't tell me that you've never tried something like that. Shoot. It's not like they're not getting paid. It's not even really scamming them. If I were scamming them, the whole thing would be illegal, and I'd be getting it for free. I'm sure everyone has tried pushing things to see if they can get whatever cheaper. People do it everyday where I work (best buy). hey boosted. No my dad doesn't "teach me this ****". We're not breaking the dang law. I see that you're not happy with it, and I respect that. People's dissatisfaction with it really affects me, but don't start gettin' personal, and accusing my father of things, when you don't even know him. And as for you Bob, good for you. shove it. I'm not interested in a stupid bidding war with you. I got it where I wanted it. Brian - Yeah, I'll be sure to bring it by you and all the guys when I get it painted and installed. It'll be sweet when all of us have our 7's rollin again. My girl is doin' real nice. I'm at a swift 1600 miles, and she's doin' real swell. I have yet to take her to redline. The farthest I think I've gone is 6.5K. I'm waiting for the official okay from my mechanic to let her loose. And I don't know if you knew, but I have a hole in each side of my Y pipe, right before the mufflers, and they're getting bigger with the faster I drive. it's got a sweet sound. :p We should get together soon and hang out.

"Scam"? Hardly. The real scam is charging $600 for a fibreglass piece that can be made with 1/6th that in shop materials, and with a preconstructed mould it's almost effortless. I've never seen Mariah Motorsports offer any sales or price discounts, so I don't think getting a spoiler for $60 less is going to break the company. Besides, if someone wants to do unethical things, they are entitled to do that. If they get caught, they will face the consiquences and that will be their punishment.

I agree...

FC owners are milked for all their pennies, b/c the aftermarket is so small. Companies provide one of a kind products (figuratively speaking), and charge whatever the **** they want for 'em. Just look at the bodykit post by fc3s.org, and the amount of attention it's drawn. Why? Because people don't want to get ***-rammed by the few companies who make worthwhile products for FCs. People can justify paying $1,650, for a beautiful and fully functional body kit, especially if it is made for a small market. But, when I got a quote on the Knight Sports from Taka Kaira for over $3k (no rear bumper) shipped, I almost **** myself. The front fascias that include the light conversions run in the $1650 range, by themselves. Give me a break =), I'd have done the same thing...

It's a scam ... plain and simple. They have an asking price, you lied to try and get it cheaper. No different than stealing the $60 difference.

I bought the Mariah front fenders a couple months ago. I thought the price was a little high, so all I said was what kind of deal can you give me and they knocked a fair chunk off. That was the honest way to go about it ... but honesty is in short supply these days.

You're right...

...It was a scam, and Mariah is trying to bend people over. Two wrongs to make a right, but in this world that's how most things are delt with. At least Jon is a good person and actually feels bad about it... I sure as hell wouldn't have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that sounds like FRAUD Deceitful conduct designed to manipulate another person to give something of value by (1) lying, (2) by repeating something that is or ought to have been known by the fraudulent party as false or suspect or (3) by concealing a fact from the other party which may have saved that party from being cheated. The existence of fraud will cause a court to void a contract and can give rise to criminal liability. -- courtesy Duhaime.org

Enough???

Ok guys, He's been beaten hard and I know he feels REALLY
sh%tty right now. Caned in front of 500 or so of his peers.

No, I do not condone the "scamming" of others!

I am in the automotive industry and understand the economics of the pricing of products. The overall markup in the OEM parts departments is in the order of 100%. Hell, I even cringe when I see the prices that we charge for some things.

I have "customers" frequently who will lie, cheat, scam, scream, threaten, or worse to try and get a price break. Why is this??

Have we forgotten how to ask?? Nicely?? I know I trip all over myself when someone just asks me for help in a genuine way!! It is so uncommon these days for someone to just ask. So many people have pre-conceived notions that they have to be a$$holes or everyone is gonna take advantage of them!

Kanaida and his Dad are very good people. They are also very avid RX-7 fans, have spent/will spend a TON of money on the 4 or more RX's they own, and have converted many a piston fan over the years.

He got a discount, He didn't steal it. Made a mistake, FLAMED!
Can we stop the bloodshed?? Lesson learned!!

Thanks,
Mike

Sounds like the beginnings of an ethical argument/debate.

I do not wish to argue or debate. I stated I do not condone this action. Ethically, it is not right.

I'm just trying to get past this and move to the positive spirit that is the core of this forum.

Respectfully,
Mike

Was it a scam??? Sure but who cares????
I don't see how anyone could be complaining about it when a day doesn't go by that I don't read posts asking people to make Mazdaspeed hood replicas, RE2000 headlight conversion replicas etc. Those companies spent money on R&D and took a chance creating those designs yet we don't think twice about stealing their creative designs.
Could he have been more honest with Mariah? Sure and he would have probably gotten a better deal (big maybe) or he could have been forced to pay full retail. Everyone knows that only an idiot pays retail.

Oh and BOOSTD 7, Its probably alot easier for you to get a good deal than alot of other people. I'm sure that these companies would rather make a little less profit and keep you happy. Your opinions carry alot of weight in this RX-7 community and they know it. Of course this is all pointless if you didn't tell them who you were in which case I'd have to tell you that you need to start.

Sweeping generalizations aside, in my experience vendors are quite willing to discuss a price other than sticker. The only drawback to haggling is the impact it may have on your time. My time is valuable to me, so I'll carefully pick the items over which to quibble. I don't think, though, that my assessment of an item's value as being too small to dicker smacks of idiocy. It may simply be that I choose to support an economy in which I live.

There's also the issue (that I face frequently) of people who want premium service for a discounted price. I have a hard time reconciling that with my clients who pay full price.

just my $0.02 worth (but I'll give you 50% if you buy today)

Cheers,

James

I'll pay you $0.02 to find an FC parts supplier that would readily, or even with a bit of persuasion, reduce prices by any significant amount. Hmmm, did you happen to quibble with Mazdatrix just recently ? Who needs a lawyers opinion anyway...

Listen, when I bought my fenders from Mariah, I basically just said what kind of deal can you give me. All I said was my name, I doubt they know who Ryan Scott is ... but they gave me a bit off. Then when I called CorkSport and ordered the Border nose, I asked and they too gave me a bit off. It's pretty simple, and it was honest.

If they hadn't given me any off, I would have still bought them. I wouldn't have lied though ... I guess my conscience is worth more than $50 though.

fair enough Ryan but like I said...

Sure pulling the scam was wrong but theres nothing wrong in using your position to your advantage.

You still haven't said what the difference is in "stealing" 50 - 60 bux from Mariah by lieing and stealing thousands from other companies by stealing their intellectual property.

I never used my position to my advantage ... of course I had to tell them my name so they know who to ship it too. After I received the fenders from Mariah, I told them I would post pics on the website. But that was after they had already charged me for them.

People will always pay a premium for the 'real' Mariah, or 'real' RE Amemiya stuff instead of the knock-offs. Some people won't ... that's the business.
