There is a big *** drain plug on the bottom of the trans(24mm) you can't miss it.
then again there is a drain plug on the side too.Same side as the filler plug.
The shifter area?..soak it up with a rag,get the old stuff out and fill back up.It just needs enough to lube the shifter block area.Mazdatrix shows you how in their shortshifter video.
The Shifter area does NOT drain into the Trans(it's separate),so if you try to fill the transmission that way you wiil become a an OLD man,.

You Can drop the trans with the driveshaft ON and not lose fluid,BUT it would be a real snotbag to do.That is why it is easier just to bite the bullet, drain it,get the trans out of the way nice and freely.

I would drain it if I were dropping the transmission. There's potential for a huge mess if you tip it back and all the fluid pours out from the tail housing where the driveshaft was.

I think there is something messing up your mileage though. As others have mention maybe dumping too much fuel in/clogged cat, etc. Have you pulled your trouble codes? The O2 sensor, TPS, etc. have codes for them that may show if they are bad. Or at least give you a direction to go in.

I had to put the MT-90 in. It took me all day because I was looking around the car and I replaced all of the lug nuts. I also found out the spare I picked up doesn't fit and I was dragging around a spare tire that wouldn't help in a crisis. I decided to do the fluid change when my transmission started "laughing" (womp-woo-woo-woo* sound) as I was off throttle. I used to not be able to shift into 1st gear at 10mph now I can shift at 15mph. The MT-90 was defiantly worth the $45 and I wouldn't mind to replace it again.

I was concerned with how I would fill the transmission back up with fluid once drained without an oil transfer pump. But, I rigged up a long fish tube to a funnel and waited for about an hour and a half to gravity feed the thing to around 2.6 quarts.

Maybe when I do the release bearing/clutch replacement more stuff will come out of the transmission. The magnetic drain plug was full of stuff (I thought it totally wouldn't be because transmissions use brass which is non-magnetic). I would gladly spend $45 again to be sure my transmission is good and flushed.

I will do the differential oil when I replace the rear suspension. As a side question, does anyone have any newish rear suspension/coilovers for around $80? I have posted a WTB but no one responded. I think when a RX7's rear wheel is lifted off the ground, the rear spring should be slid back into place before lowered. Either that or my suspension was shot to begin with. But now both sides (especially drivers side [no hard right turns > ]) the springs are totally bent.

THIS is the cheap and "easy" way to get fluid into the trans.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ABN-Siphon-Gas-Transfer-Kit-Fluid-Transfer-Pump-for-Gas-Oil-Liquid-Air-hoses-/331256767829?pt=US_Hand_Tools&hash=item4d20712555Just make sure that you do it slow and carefully as I find the hoses tend to fly off..lol!

I got one of those Giant Syringe looking things, you put fluid in,push and repeat..That works real quick too.
