Hrm.. Got a question about a problem on a S4 T2 I may buy....

I've been on a long long search for a T2... Had many sold as soon as I decided on them... Or like... the day before I found them.... I had one sold after it was agreed to be mine... Had one mess up where the guy had to move with the military and didn't have time to get his title.... And then there's another I've been waiting on forever for the title to be ordered on...

No new ones have shown up on autotrader for a while, and I've been pretty lazy. Found one today for real cheap... Cheap enough to make me worry(compared to all others on there...).... It's $1,800.

Anyway... I wanted to call the guy up and see if there was anything wrong w/ it before I even went to check it out.....

Well, according to him, he likes to buy RX7s. He has a T2 and a GXL... Both going for very low prices.... I do kinda wonder why one likes to buy them then sell them, maybe he just goes after those that would be lost or something... I dunno, heh.

Anyway, he said it hasn't been drove in a while... Because the owner of it is a 65 year old guy that had a heart attack...... But he said all the electronic stuff works..... It still runs strong...... He only listed 2 problems....

1) There is some paint peeling (which doesn't bug me much, hell, in the pic I thought the paint job looked flawless.....). But he said something about he would lower the price of it a bit for that if I had any qualms about needing to paint it....

2) "The fuel pump has been messing up." NO idea what's wrong with it. He said it, I had to ask him to repeat it because he had a heavy spanish accent and sometimes I have trouble understanding anything (I dunno, weird thing with me, I have good hearing...).... He said something about 2 days ago he tried to start it up but it wouldn't or something, because the fuel pump was messing up.... But he said he'd lower the price of it for repairs to that if I wanted..

I know it's not enough info... But... Any ideas? How about just plain replacing the fuel pump? This is assuming it can't be fixed really.... How much would it cost?

Eh... I'm kinda worried from it being cheap... And him also offering to lower the price for 2 different things.. Not sure if there's something real wrong with it... Or if he's a nice guy.... Or any other various reason. Kinda funny though, it seems I'm always finding 1987 T2s or the 10AEs when I find the turbo ones.... Even if I search for S5s as well.

Well, help if you can THanks

Oh, yes, and it has ~146,000 miles on it. So I was already going to attempt to lower the price a little bit more Just since I'd be having a rebuild in the next year or so probably.

well, if you're aware it may need a rebuild(maybe not) then go ahead and get it... but talk him down some(ofcourse).

how does he know it's the fuel pump? go and test drive it, then post the results...

For that price even if it sort of runs its still a steal, I payed $4000 for mine when it had 67k on it, and all kinds of little electrical demons. For $1800 I say by it and be prepared to spend money on it, but dont feel bad when you do because you stole the car

It's not that I think it needs a rebuild, it's that I wouldn't want it to go much longer without one.

How he knows it's the fuel pump? NO idea. I'm just figuring he knows what he was talking about for now.

Yeah, I plan to check it out tomorrow and all.. Or maybe Saturday.... Don't want to take too long so I don't lose my chance on one yet again...... But I don't want to buy out of desperation and have something real bad turn up with it. It's also stock, which means I get to do all the mods myself rather than have someone else's work on my car

Yes pip, I know it's a steal Average price of what I've been after has been $3,500-$4,000.

Something as simple as a clogged fuel strainer or worn out TPS can give fuel cuts.

Some deals are too good to be true, and some are just great deals. I got my TII with 60k on the engine for $1000. Took it home, did a compression check, and I get 105 psi on all rotor faces front and rear. It runs strong as hell and theres really not a thing wrong with it except needing paint and a cleanup.

I hope it's nothing. I've no idea what the problem is, just that he said one time the fuel pump messed up and it didn't start or something*. I'm hoping it's nothing serious or just something dumb Gonna check it out today though... I think.

*I'm not exactly sure what he said, he had a heavy spanish accent and we were both on cell phones, I was getting uncomfortable and wanting to get off because I was outside of a friend's house (can't get reception at mine) and it was getting hot, and this place where I had surgery recently was really bugging me..... I just figured I'd learn more from him today or see it myself... But also figured I'd ask on here and see if anyone knew of some problem that it could be (despite little to no info..... heh).

Haha, yeah, in the message I just posted, when I said "something dumb" it was because I thought, "please let it just be that he accidently flooded it and didn't realize."

Your best bet is to go out there, take a look at it, see how it sounds when you try to start it, make an offer, haul it home, fix it, and haul ***.

dude if i were you and i was a few months ago when i settled for a na (not sorry i had but definatly wanted a t2 instead) take it and run. if it drives and seems ok .. do it. I bought a 7 for about 1000.00 put about 3-4 gs into it and i love the car. better than paying 300 a month a new car and pay out the *** for insuance. thats my view on it . I would run with it .. its hard to find working t2 anywhere close to where i live. i mean one guy in my state got i think 3000.00 for a non working t2 with parts missing . i think your set . even if the engine doesnt work put about 2000.00 send it to RR and be happy

Oh, if it works I'm most likely going to get it if it runs. I just want to know what I might expect to pay for problems in that area and if there was any often had problem with it that could be the thing....

And even if it does run, it's still getting a rebuild in the next year or so heh.
