Im 20 in NY. When my 7 was insured under my name it was like $420 down & $250 a month. That was the absolute cheapest i could find. Now my 7 is insured under my girl friends name, 0 down, $80 a month. This is a red 86 rx7 no air bag, no abs, no back seats, title still in my name. We both have a clean record. All i can tell you to do is look around and get some estimates.

Just don't buy comp and collision. You don't need it as what they'll charge you for one year of coverage is essentially what they'll give you for your 2nd Gen at the extream of they totalling it out. Getting in a fender bender is just an opportunity to learn how to unbolt the damaged fender and bolt on a replacement you get from pic a part or some forum member.

But don't go for minimum liability either. Get at least 50/100/25. Also get uninsured/underinsured coverage as well since there is a bit of an epidemic going on in this economy where folks are cancelling their insurance to save money.

Finally, for your parents sake, have your FC ONLY in your name. Don't let them put their name on the title. That only gives someone you hit a platform to go after your parents assets if you blow through your coverage otherwise.

You would think insurance would go up once you reach the drinking age lol.

But it seems to get cheaper with age..

I pay $309 for every 6 months total for liability on my volvo and RX7 convertible. I'm 23 and have a relatively clean record! Dunno why it is so cheap! I feel like it shouldn't be.

$120/mo, I'm 19, and thats full coverage, live in Texas, insured by progressive. Also good student discount and have 2 speeding tickets and 1 accident (but that was in my transam, and not my fault, doesnt count, I wasnt even moving)

Also remember, most insurance places insure the RX7 as a sports car, and as a teen, that means $$. I thankfully, have a turbo conversion from an N/A chassis, so my V/N saves me some money saying its an N/A.

Also, there is usually no difference in premiums between a non-turbo FC and a turbocharged FC. In most cases the only RX-7s that have a higher premium are the FD and the convertible.

On my TII last year, full coverage was something like $35/month. At the time I was 18 with a few tickets, but I insured it as a secondary "weekend" car, and only drove it 3000 miles per year. My advice is to keep your honda thing as a primary driver, and throughly explain to your insurance company that you won't put that many miles on it, also say that you take real good care of it, its your baby, etc. etc.

Well they always charge a lot less for a 2nd car. Mine is $70 a month for collision. Used to be about the same for liability only when I was younger, or about twice that for collision.

Umm, you guys realize alot depends on where you live right? Just call all the insurance companies around you and get quotes, its free and easy. I'm 19, live in NY and I put $420 down and pay $190 a month. Clean license and I took driver's ed. Try to stay away from those big companies like Geico, Progressive, etc. they usually tend to be most expensive unless you're married with kids and a house.

Holy stupidity, Batman, you're lucky you even have a car dude. I hope I don't come across you when I'm driving in the Edmonton area. In Ontario, you'd have had your car impounded on the spot, and a $10,000 fine. Bye-bye license and car, and your minimum wage job wages for the next year. Quit being an idiot on the roads, or we'll end up with retarded, knee-jerk laws like Ontario's here, too, laws that give huge discretionary powers to the police (not that there's much question in your case) - did they impound your car? It's already dangerous driving - 6 demerits - and a mandatory court appearance unless the cop was lenient on you, and it's hard to see why he would be.

Take it to a club event at Stratotech, or look up the Alberta Solo Association (ASA) and go to some autocross events on the runways at CFB Namao.

For the OP: +1 pick up the phone; insurance rates are highly variable based on location, amongst other things, such as the phase of the moon, sunspot cycle, the price of powdered newt, and anything else weird and wonderful actuaries can find to analyze. Just collect as many quotes as possible. An FC with a teen driver is likely to be categorized as high risk, but a lot will depend on what . Multi-car and family rates can help, so your existing company is the place to start.
