26 is my best (mostly highway), and normally little less than 20 around town.

GXL with 130k mi, gutted cats, single straight through muffler, cone filter, no AC, no power steering, and attentive maintenance.

I notice nobody consider the tire width to be a factor in mileage? I have no numbers to back it up - my 86' NA went from bad to worse when switching from stock 195 to 225/45-18. But the fun factor improved =)

more mass to spin but the difference should be marginal, keep in mind not all tires are created equally as well. you could find a tire that is the same size and diameter that weighs twice that of another but light wieght tires are not always necessarily better(thickness, composition and durability)...

gutted cats usually will improve gas mileage assuming you can lean out the fuel mixtures to match the freer flowing exhaust.

i don't even have my O2 hooked up and i get better mileage than most 7 owners and mine is a modded turbo.

Funny you should ask: '88 'vert - I just checked at my last fill-up. No freeway. I drive 7 miles one-way & shut 'er off mon thru fri. Avg. city = 13mpg. I do let her hit 5k a couple of times 'cause she really likes it...
Best freeway avg. mpg = 19.

My 1988 is still stock and I got around 23-24 driving it from CA to IL. Not bad going through the mountains. Just replaced the AC comp. so I'm sure it'll go down now.
