If you are into the engine already, port it, then do the exhaust from the headers all the way back. RB headers, presilencer, and a good quality cannister. $1000 bucks goes quick. I'm with Bonzai on the tuning part, but you should be able to do this on the rebuild stage. As they say, you put junk in you get junk out.

You can go after the suspension next.

Why the Hell would he put a Haltech on a basically stock na!?

So far I've got a cone intake (filter and adapter $120CA), then I've just ordered a RB header and presilencer ($550-$600CA). My 5th and 6th ports aren't working correctly, so when they go to install my header and presilencer they're going to rip off my intake and fix those, so if all goes well it should just be just under 1kCA.
I'm looking at prolly putting a TII fuel pump for that that little extra pressure in the fuel rail. Anyone have an idea on how much it will cost for a street port?

Get rid of the RESTRICTIVE AFM, no more hessitation, high idle problems, etc, etc!!

Plus you'll have the option to either turbo it the right way, or just go with a RB intake manifold & Holley style FI carb!!! Talk about NA power You'll be opening the path to the right way for ANY kind of modifications you later one wish or care to imagine.

As I said, everything else can be broken into small sections.

actually i looked up the stats and a stock 88 NA should be able to run 15.5 @87mph if the engine is runing like new... top speed 137mph... 0-60mph in 7.7seconds and 0-100mph in 23.1 seconds.... hmmmm halltech... i don't know... sounds like a good idea but from what people have said so far: porting, headers, high flow cat, nice exhaust, suspension sound like the best bets SO FAR.... Question for you all... I keep reading bout presilencers in here... i'm kind of a newbie to rotories and have no idea of what a presilencer is... i don't want to sound like a moron but could someone please Xplain what they are and why i'd want one one on my car?

thanx again everyone!

In all honesty and not trying to start a flame war or "uncover the lier"; I've never seen a 14's sec FC NA with all of its interior and stock FI.

With a Halltech, the sky is the limit. I'm the type of person who likes to do the things right the first time, if $$$ and time permits. I don't about you, but I've onle had $1K to spend once in my life. What I'm trying to say is that it is easier to save $300 for a exhaust system than $1K for a stand alone. Later on with a Halltech you might no be thinking which header, but which downpipe........ or FI webber...... etc.

Know what I mean?

A presilencer is pretty much.... well... just as the word describes it. it PRE...SILENCES the exhaust before it reaches the tips... If you run a RB header without one, be sure you'll be getting noise violations out your yingyang (depending where you live). Start the vehicle up in your garage and close the garage door, rev it up a couple times and see if you can hear anything for the next couple hours.

The presilencer goes between the exhaust manifold and the muffler (anywhere). The most comman location is right after the catalytic convertor, or just replace the cat with it.

You don't NEED a presilencer.... hell you don't NEED any exhaust at all on the car! It all comes down to what type of noise laws there are in your area, and how loud of a car you can put up with. Generally though, you will want at least a muffler and a presilencer.

RX-7's are so loud because they have rotary engines But really, that's why. It's just the rotary engine's design and nature to create loud exhaust levels. The peripheral exhaust port makes for quite a large, straight, easy, and fast exit for exhaust coming out of the combustion cycle, so it's going to be loud!

cool, thanx bridgeported! would you think since i probably should put one on, that i should just replace the cat with one so that it will have a less resistance than having a cat too?

thanx

Well I have only run it once and that was before catback and efan. It did a 17.1 with a 60ft of something like 2.5

I have gotten my 88 SE to do 2.4 60fts with a 17.4 so I know I can go faster but Not much more than maybe 16.7

===
Yes the ports actuate fine. Plenty of back pressure to get em going.

There is one thing troubling about my car. It will idle at 1k RPM for a while and then once the engine gets a little above hot operating temps(not insane hot but like when you give your car a long drive or hard run) the idle will drop to 5-600RPM.It bounces around a little when down that low. I think it's just the idle set too low and nothing too bad though.
