How strong is the GTUs drivetrain?

How strong is the GTUs (sport package) drivetrain? Is it the same as the NA? Turbo? I'm asking because the smaller ratio in the differential could be useful if I ever decide to do a full TII swap.

EDIT: I know the GTUs were suppose to come with a 3 rotor engine (20B?), that's why I though it might have a beefer drivetrain than the NA.

If you do the full TII swap, you're going to swap the tranny and the rearend, along with the axles, which makes your question moot.

You could swap the GTUs tranny to any other NA if you wanted to take advantage of it's worse gas mileage.

If the GTUs drivetrain is a strong as the TII one then I'd use it with the turbo engine. Custom driveshaft! .

do you have difficulties understanding simple things?
it is another NA drivetrain. no, it is not strong. it is weak.
why would the NA GTUs have a TURBO drivetrain?

Might be you who has trouble explaining things. Giving a concrete anwser wasn't to hard was it? If you took the time to read my post you would have seen that I read that the GTUs were originaly suppose to be equiped with 3 rotors engines. That's from Icemark site. Well thank you for your anwser anyway.

It's as weak as an NA. Because the 3-rotor rumor never came to be, Mazda cost-cutted the GTUs tranny.

This is somewhat related to this topic but i was searching through the archives and read that the lifespan of N/A tranny's decreases once the car surpasses 200hp. There was also a thread that said someone had about 200hp on an NA tranny and said he put a brand new stock clutch on before he put the engine back in and said that it kept on slipping. Does anyone know if upgrading the clutch could help reduce the amount of wear on the tranny and eliminate the slipping b/c i recently purchased a 90 gxl and i was told it has around 200hp on it.
-Thanks for any help you can give

upgraded clutch would reduce the life of the transmission

i.e. if the clutch is slipping 10% of the power or what not, it is taking away shock when you ricershift, and it is 10% less power that the transmission see, so the transmission think you have 180

no your 90gxl wont have around 200hp on it unless its a turbo.

I doubt a GXL would put 200hp, it can but they are few N/A out there making 200hp. Maybe the seller checked TII specs and assume they were the same? If not then a better clutch wont help, in fact slippage would probably help protect the transmission. 200hp is generally considered to be the limit of the N/A tranny.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. I bought this car from some guy that already modded the car and has receipts for work he has done. It know it has been street ported and has had power steering and air conditioning units removed, stage 1 apexi clutch, NA tranny, tien shocks, aftermarket radiator, intake and true dual exhaust on a custom exhaust manifold with performance mufflers, 6k miles on a completely rebuilt engine. I have been driving the car and haven't experienced any slippage or problems from the tranny yet but would like to know how long i should expect the tranny to last under the stress put on the tranny.
-thanks

it should last awhile, you probably have about 170-175 with those mods.

You can expect it to last a while, if you drive very gently. Otherwise it may break pretty soon.

EDIT: It's only street ported? Oups, my bad. The tranny should hold fine.

hardest for it is when you change gears, launch, etc
if you shift, and dont give it gas till clutch is out, then romp on it, it will be fine
just remember, dont romp on it till clutch is fully engage.
the hardest for it is when you change gear and launch and stuff
so just lay on it when it is completely engaged, it isnt the power from the power that kills it, it is from the 'abuse'
